Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences, environmental studies, conservation, recreation, or related field; three years of progressively responsible experience in education or community services program planning, to include one year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be willing to work outside of normal work hours, which may include evenings and weekends. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs desired. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.
Duties
Serves as primary process owner/facilitator for cross-educational efforts of cooperative extension and parks and recreation. Develops, plans, organizes, implements, evaluates, and oversees educational programs in science and natural history. Leads and implements needs assessment and strategic program planning across several facilities and locations. Plans and directs the work of full-time, part-time, and contractual staff including training, assigning work, evaluating work performance, and selecting new staff. Develops and implements strategies to promote public awareness and administration of programs and activities throughout County. Interfaces with a variety of community groups, volunteers, county employees, members of the media, the public and other agencies. Assesses monetary needs and assists in the preparation in the annual budget. Prepares a variety of written reports. Perform other work as required.
