The Naval Nuclear Laboratory comprises the U.S. Department of Energy locations and personnel responsible for developing advanced naval nuclear propulsion technology, providing technical support to ensure the safety and reliability of our nation’s naval nuclear reactors, and training the Sailors who operate those reactors in the U.S. Navy’s submarines and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory includes the Bettis and Knolls Atomic Power Laboratories, the Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and the Naval Reactors Facility which have proudly supported the nation since 1946. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory has nearly 8,000 employees working at primary locations in Pennsylvania, New York, South Carolina, and Idaho. The Knolls Radiological Engineering group is looking for highly motivated Engineers who are searching for an opportunity to continue building expertise in Radiological Controls. Radiological Engineers provide subject matter expertise in Radiological Controls, independent oversight of Laboratory work, clarification of both local and program regulatory requirements, and provide assessments of site performance is it pertains to nuclear work.
Radiological Engineers are given autonomy in their assignments and are expected to provide technical and programmatic leadership in Radiological Controls, mentorship to employees in the application of radiological requirements, and use creativity and expertise to solve complex problems. The selected candidate will be expected to be trained as an Engineer of Radiological Work (ERW) and provide the Laboratory with support in Emergency Response. Apply today!
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of nine years of relevant experience; or
- Master’s degree in a technical, engineering or science-related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience; or
- Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified or qualified SIT and three years as EOOW in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- Current or previous CRE Qualification, or six years as SRE, or SRE qualified with nine year of experience
Preferred Skills
- Previous NNPP radiological experience
- Previous or current training as an Article 112 ERW
- Previous experience in compliance roles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills

Pay Range
$105,600 – $158,400 annually
