Position Summary: The Principal Program Manager will be responsible for executing on PG&E’s mission of safe, reliable, and affordable operations. The program manager will have experience and skills in project management, communication, teamwork, management of change, change management, and related technicality who can drive the delivery of the objectives to all needed employee levels of the company and outside stakeholders. The candidate will leverage their technical expertise to help guide strategic decisions in Transmission and Substation Operations. Responsibilities include managing special programs and projects, ensuring proper business management, meeting governance, developing strategy as well as providing dedicated technical advice to the VP of Transmission and Substation. This role will work with Electric Operations (EO) senior leadership on day-to-day matters and will collaborate them on long term planning and other strategic issues.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
- Minimum Base Salary (Bay Area) $136,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (Bay Area) $184,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (Bay Area) $232,000.00
- Minimum Base Salary (California) $129,000.00
- Mid Base Salary (California) $175,000.00
- Maximum Base Salary (California) $220,000.00
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead highly visible and complex projects and initiatives within scope, schedule, and cost
- Attends meetings on behalf of the leader, when scheduling conflicts exists
- Assists in the development and management of department expense budgets.
- Regularly monitors expenses against forecast, providing explanation or justification for budget items and/or variances.
- Decide on suitable strategies and objectives and presents findings and makes recommendations to management.
- Works with all levels of management and senior leadership across functions to influence decisions.
- Prepare briefing materials and ensure VP is appropriately prepared for all internal/external meetings and speaking engagements. Provide direction on overall tone and level of detail on all materials to ensure audience suitability, proper messaging/branding, and adequate content.
- Partner closely with Executive Assistant on managing and monitoring VP calendar, including field visit coordination, speaking events/forums, meeting cadence, 1:1s, etc. Ensure that VP calendar properly prioritizes and reflects key areas of focus and provides enough time for long term strategic management of the organization, in addition to near term needs.
- Partners with senior leaders of Electric Operations and Human Resources organizations regarding line of business talent strategies including leadership development and training programs, employee engagement, and workforce diversity.
- Lead the coordination of VP and ELT meetings, and leadership/strategy development and culture change/change management efforts.
- Composes, designs, and prepares various complex and technical correspondence, presentations, communications, reports, documents, and other materials.
- Researches, analyzes, and responds to various and escalated inquiries and issues, develop recommendations, and execute resolutions to support decision making actions.
Minimum:
- Bachelor of Science in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering or related discipline or equivalent work experience required.
- 8 years of related work experience.
Desired:
- Utility, energy industry experience; advanced understanding of the utility or energy industry drivers, issues and trends.
- Technical Knowledge and understanding of Transmission, Distribution and Substation

- Excellent oral and written communication; strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; effective ability to lead and deliver presentations to large teams.

- Strong leadership and business acumen; competency in strategic business planning concepts, practices, methods and techniques.

- Expert analytical problem solving and decision-making skills to develop comprehensive solutions; possesses a continuous improvement mindset; Process Improvement and/or Workforce Planning certification.
- Excellent creative and innovative solution-based thinking to implement new programs/processes or organizational improvements; deep knowledge of change management and process improvement principles, concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of human performance analysis and improvement; solid understanding of various training concepts and methods.
- Expert analytical problem solving and decision-making skills to develop comprehensive solutions; possesses a continuous improvement mindset; Process Improvement
