Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is seeking a Principal Business Manager – Data Center to support the CO+I Data Center Operations leadership team. CO+I is responsible for planning, building and operating Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure data centers across the globe. Within CO+I, the organizational scope includes supply planning and strategic acquisition, global construction, data center and edge site operations, critical environment and availability, engineering, and data center innovation.
To help us accelerate achieving our objectives, growth, and transformation, we are looking for a candidate who will report to the Data Center Operations office of Business Management. The role will be responsible for working with the leadership team in driving business strategies, making, creating, and managing Rhythm of the Business, identifying, and driving organizational initiatives, financial planning and analysis, and business process to meet strategic objectives and priorities. This individual must have a blend of strategy, planning, data and analytics, business management, communications, and program management skills. Responsibilities:
Strategic Execution
- Drive strategic alignment and documentation in partnership with the Vice President and their leadership team.
- Partner with Vice President and Leadership Team to build and drive short and long-term strategies to deliver on key results and business goals.
- Partner with program leaders within CO+I and across Microsoft to influence and improve downstream impact to CO+I.
- Lead special strategic projects and drive measurable results to deliver business impact.
- Partner with engineering to identify, prioritize and deliver high impact programs.
- Distribute and integrate data analytics and insights to help inform and improve our business strategy.
Special Projects/Programs and Initiatives
- Drive cross-team projects as needed to meet the changing business environment and to manage complex business needs.
- Lead project/program management to ensure organization-wide implementation of strategic efforts that require coordination across multiple disciplines and business organizations.
- Create clarity on ambiguous projects and develop plans for execution.
Business Management
- Understand the end-to-end business to manage priorities most effectively for the Vice President and manage interactions for Vice President; serve as the proxy for the Vice President, as needed.
- Drive prioritization and prepare the team for weekly leadership staff.
- Lead the rhythm of business for fiscal year budget, headcount planning and semester planning process, driving content and alignment across teams for executive review.
- Facilitate execution of leadership team directed rhythms including financial planning, strategic planning, white papers, key results reviews, training, and organizational hygiene.
- Facilitate support for organizational health and leadership sponsorship in culture, diversity and inclusion, manager, and people excellence.
Communications
- Ensure success of Vice President meetings, speaking engagements, partner, and team engagements (ex. Town Hall meetings, external speaking events).
- Tie the communication engagement plan into broader organizational rhythm and resources.
Financial Management
- Lead fiscal planning for the team in partnership with finance. Manage the team’s Opex and Capex budget, headcount and spend in partnership with finance to ensure effective budget management.
- Ensure teams have a clear understanding of business drivers and forecasting to develop data driven models for people/discretionary and non-people spend.
- Drive to quarterly and Fiscal Year financial targets/accountabilities.
- Leverage deep knowledge of organizational strategy and planned deliverables for the upcoming year(s) to design budgets.
- Oversee the development of metrics for budgeting and forecasting; identify actions that can be taken to course-correct and drive performance improvement.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 6+ years’ work experience in program management, process management, process improvement
- OR equivalent experience
Background Check Requirements:
The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
- Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- 10+ years business or program management in a global manufacturing or technology organization.
- 2+ years in business operations or data center domain experience preferred.
Business Program Management IC6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $124,800 – $266,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $159,000 – $292,200 per year.
