Description

Pivot Energy is seeking an experienced and collaborative Preconstruction Manager to help support our efforts in solar development and project execution. The CSG Preconstruction Manager will be instrumental in the early stages of the ground mount Community Solar Garden (CSG) project development and pre-subcontract award phases, ensuring that projects are well-planned, feasible, and aligned with our sustainability goals. This role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and a thorough understanding of the solar energy industry.

This is a new position with tremendous growth potential at a B Corporation and IPP with a national presence, so it is essential that the individual hired for this role is self-directed, passionate, collaborative, and goal oriented.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Project Feasibility Analysis: Conduct feasibility studies for potential solar projects. Evaluate site conditions, resource assessments, and technical constraints.
    • Review drawings and specifications and have clear understandings of scope of work and schedule expectations
    • Work closely with Preconstruction team members to understand site conditions, client goals, development costs, and other essential deal elements
    • Participate in internal estimate review meetings, subcontractor selection process, and constructability reviews
  • Budget and Cost Estimation: Develop project budgets, and cost estimates. Analyze cost drivers, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure budgets align with project objectives.
  • Vendor and Supplier Coordination: Identify, evaluate, and select potential vendors and suppliers. Collaborate with procurement teams to secure competitive bids and establish partnerships.
  • Cost Tracking and Reporting: Monitor project costs throughout the preconstruction phase..
    • Create, publish, and manage subcontractor RFQs and RFPs
    • Manage cost estimates with subcontractor partners throughout the development cycle up until Project Management handoff, including regular communications with subcontractors regarding project scope, costs, and schedule. This includes coordinating descope meetings with subcontractors to review bid sheets, ensure accuracy of costs/contingency, and to eliminate scope gaps.
    • Support the Preconstruction team in maintaining our cost database, units costs, and estimating software
  • Project Coordination
    • Support the Preconstruction team in managing RFIs, including value engineering feedback/alternates to improve project economics
    • Coordinate with Pivot Procurement and Pivot Interconnection teams for major equipment and interconnection costs
  • Risk Assessment: Identify project risks and develop strategies for risk mitigation. Ensure projects are initiated with minimal disruptions.

Competencies

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in project management and commercial solar energy systems
  • Ability to understand technical documentation related to renewable energy projects such as site drawings and specifications, interconnection agreements, facilities studies, permitting documents, local codes and regulations, civil and electrical construction specifications
  • Must be self-motivated and be able to work both individually and/or in a collaborative team environment with minimal guidance
  • Must have strong organizational capacity to simultaneously manage multiple opportunities with competing deadlines and be able to quickly adapt to changes and shift priorities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred

  • Experience in DG/Small Utility scale estimating, design, installation and/or construction management
  • Experience evaluating subcontractor bid packages
  • Experience or familiarity with various estimating tools and software, i.e., Procore, Bluebeam, etc.

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $75,000-$105,000 depending on relevant experience, along with eligibility for the company’s substantial bonus plan, with a target bonus of 50% of annual salary (prorated in first year based on start date). Total annual compensation potential, when including bonus, is $105,000 -$157,500.
