The Position
Beaverton Police Department is seeking an experienced video producer and multimedia storyteller to be the department’s first Multimedia and Community Engagement Coordinator. This new position will create interactive digital content to share public safety information and engage the Beaverton community in the Department’s work in creative and innovative ways.
The Multimedia and Community Engagement Coordinator will work directly with the Chief of Police and the Public Information Officer to advance the Department’s strategic initiatives for community engagement. Our ideal candidate is a skilled visual storyteller who is passionate about serving the public and connecting Beaverton’s diverse community with Police Department resources. Experience in video production, storyboarding, script development, camera operation, and digital publishing is necessary. Prior law enforcement experience is not.
This is a full-time, non-exempt, represented (BPA) position. There is one vacancy. The schedule will be Monday-Friday, with occasional evening or weekend events.

Responsibilities
- Producing and creating videos and other audio-visual materials for training, community engagement, and instruction. Producing and directing live and taped programs, including public meetings, studio productions, training videos, public service announcements, and documentaries.
- Video production from idea to finished product, including:
- Developing concepts and storyboarding
- Meeting with internal customers to identify needs
- Script development, research and writing
- Videography, camera operation, lighting
- Coordinating logistics, including scheduling, transportation, and equipment.
- Scouting and securing locations
- Editing video, mixing sound, and creating graphics and digital animation
- Photography and photo editing for promotions, productions, and publications.
- Publishing videos and other content to the Police Department’s social media feeds.
- Develop work plans, timelines, and resource allocations for projects.
- Additional duties as outlined in the class specification.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Education, or a related field; and
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible work experience involving the development and coordination of public information or community outreach programs, including experience in communications and media relations; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience enabling the incumbent to perform the essential functions of the position.
Licensing and special requirements
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the city’s driving standards may be required.
- Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) fingerprints must be completed and cleared prior to start date.
- Ability to pass reference checks and education verification and satisfy the requirements of a background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Compensation
Wage Range: $31.86 – $42.70 hourly
Starting rate will be determined depending on relevant work experience as outlined in the Equal Pay Act. New hires who meet minimum requirements will start at step one. Higher steps may be offered to those who have additional years of directly related experience to the position within the posted wage range.
