Point-of-Sale (POS) IT Specialist – Zoo

Full-Time, Hourly

Hourly Pay Range: $23.55 – $27.33

Job Summary: This position provides primary technical support for the Zoo’s Point of Sale (POS) System in a campus-wide setting with approximately 100 customer POS registers/ systems and end-user desktop support to an additional 100 workstations. The main objective of this position is to ensure all POS Systems are functioning at their optimal performance levels. The position exists to ensure the Milwaukee County Zoo’s POS system is maintained to handle their transaction and revenue needs.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and maintain proper function of POS system, cash registers and peripherals; conduct basic configuration to set-up POS; Capable of performing a wide range of hardware installation tasks; mounting monitors, cash drawers, racks, shelving, etc.; generate standard and custom reports as needed.
  • Assist with planning, installation, troubleshooting and ongoing support of special projects. Assists with new and upgrade POS hardware and software installations.
  • Instruct users and document system use to ensure understanding of POS system, computer equipment and applications; answer questions and assist in resolving problems regarding the methods and procedures for using computer applications.
  • Ensure expectations are being met by communicating and maintaining key POS business relationships with other teams, departments, and vendors; Give feedback and recommendations to other internal teams to improve services and reduce desktop support requests.
  • Troubleshoot all end-user desktop computer problems to restore optimal productivity; Manage ongoing Service Desk tickets. Provide timely updated and detailed progress to issues if not initially resolved.
  • Add, remove, and change products and SKUs, Year-end inventory tasks and reconciliations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, License/Certification and Experience:

  • Current residency in the State of Wisconsin required.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License required and must be maintained during employment.
  • Intermediate knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets
  • Associates degree or higher in IT or related field or equivalent experience
  • At least one (1) year of experience in Point-of-Sale systems and/or Information Technology

Additional Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of office practices, principles, methods, and procedures; knowledge of spelling, grammar, and punctuation; knowledge of the use of a personal computer and peripherals; written and oral communication skills; organizational skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to maintain records, files, and store items systematically; ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 30 lbs. as needed.
