PLP Program and Community Relations Coordinator

The Leadership Studies Program is situated in Academic Affairs and the Office of Public Good Strategy and Research. It includes two selective cohort-based leadership studies minor programs – the historic Pioneer Leadership Program (PLP) and the Colorado Women’s College (CWC) Leadership Scholars legacy program – a ROTC minor pathway, and leadership studies courses offered university wide. PLP begins as a living and learning community and accepts 88 incoming first-year students each year. CWC accepts 18-20 students each year and includes an annual scholarship. All three leadership studies minor pathways span the four-year undergraduate experience and together serve over 350 students annually.

Position Summary

The PLP Program and Community Relations Coordinator position manages PLP student recruitment, onboarding the first-year cohort and ensuring the cohort develops an inclusive community marked by a sense of belonging and community connections. This includes integrating the 4D student experience, oversight of the community engagement learning program, and supporting the overall co-curricular leadership studies student experiences. In addition, the position provides coordination and administrative support for advising, registration, and program budgeting for leadership studies. The Program and Recruitment Coordinator assists in managing PLP, CWC and ROTC minor pathways. This is a benefited, twelve-month FTE position and reports directly to the Leadership Studies Program Manager.

Essential Functions

In addition to following the University of Denver’s policies and procedures, principal responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

25% Student Recruitment Efforts – Direct marketing, recruitment, selection, and onboarding of all first year PLP students

  • Collaborate with Admission Office to communicate in an effective manner across the country; this includes coordination for all visit programs, webinars, mailings, phone calling, and Slate communication processes.
  • Update, maintain and manage all website, social media, and collateral communication pieces, ensuring effective branding and exposure to attract highly qualified students.
  • Build a strong presence and experience for prospective and incoming students on campus and virtually.
  • Develop and expand communication with high school guidance counselors, with particular focus on developing a diverse and inclusive cohort population.
  • Manage all student recruitment data bases, systems, files, and PACE reports, ensuring strong confidentiality of student data.
  • Develop and lead the student selection process involving faculty, staff, and student readers to select the new PLP cohort each year.

40% PLP First Year and Community Engagement Experience – Coordinate PLP 1st year programs to include summer communication, bio book, orientation/onboarding, fall retreat, residential living community connections, evening and residential programming, and Community Learning Field Placement program.

  • Collaborate with PLP team and campus partners for excellence in first year onboarding, including but not limited to Admission Office, Housing and Residential Education (HRE), Students Affairs and Inclusive Excellence, 4D Experience team, the Kennedy Mt. Campus staff, Discoveries Orientation staff, and DU Programming Council.
  • Develop and coordinate all PLP orientation communications including summer mailings, student bio books, the PLP Student/Family orientation, and first week community building activities to facilitate successful college transition and inclusive community building.
  • Coordinate and lead programming to develop a strong first year residential community. This will include developing or supporting first year student events and floor community programs, PLP Fall Ascent retreat, communication between PLP program team, students and HRE staff, and assisting HRE in residential/roommate issue problem-solving.
  • Direct the 1st-year Community Learning Field Placements (CLFP) program that strengthen current and expand new community relationships with local non-profits, schools and government agencies for meaningful community engaged learning.
  • Coordinate and lead community engagement orientation and support services where needed to strengthen community engagement experience for all stakeholders.
  • Coordinate CLFP annual evaluation and assessment strategies including surveys, site visitations/observations and interviews of community partners and students.

35% Administrative/Office Management:

  • Develop and maintain assigned PLP budget, dept. data systems, and Banner processes related to recruitment, first year student programming and community engaged learning.
  • Coordinate with LDRS Program Manager for dept. social media and communication processes such as student newsletters, PLP Canvas community site, list-serves, and alumni newsletter.
  • Coordinate logistics for all LDRS courses including registrar liaison on course times, room requests, book orders, enrollments and hiring of adjuncts.
  • Oversee tracking systems and processes for LDRS advising (PLP, CWC, ROTC), digital records, minor verifications, and PLP scholarships/grants.
  • Support Leadership Studies Program Manager Leadership for wider student events/co-programming, mentorship, and alumni connections.
  • Maintain personal DU email, calendar and purchasing card system.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; experience and ability to work with and across multiple, diverse audiences.
  • Office management skills including proficient use of computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience using/ability to quickly learn DU-specific platforms (e.g. Banner, Canvas, Slate, Concur, Zoom webinars, etc.) and social media platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills with detail orientation and proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrates appreciation for leadership education and undergraduate student development.
  • Adept at event planning, collaboration and problem-solving, working within a budget and multi-tasking.
  • Team Player: ability to work collaboratively with students, alumni, parents, staff, faculty, department staff and community stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-2 years Administrative Experience, preferably in Higher Education

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree
  • Three to four years of experience working in Higher Education/Student Affairs in a direct student support role.

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions often occur, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • Open to Coordinator pursuing advanced degree at DU and creating moderate flexible schedule to accommodate.
  • Physical Activities

  • Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs.

    Salary Grade Number:

    The salary grade for the position is 7.

    Hourly Range:

    The hourly range for the position is $23.00-$26.56.
