Job Description:

Contribute towards physical security design of major and minor construction projects, planning, organizing, directing activities concerned with the design, construction, and maintenance of physical security hardware and software. Participate in identifying appropriate physical security hardware to use for various new construction projects, major renovations, and minor projects, satisfying department and end-user requirements. Develop security statements of work, following UF construction standards for access control, security cameras and intrusion detection systems. proposing and creating functionality to meet the needs of the building occupants. Assist in maintaining security construction standards. Review proposals for accuracy and discuss required changes with security integrators and other appropriate entities. Inspect and review projects to monitor physical security compliance with contract documents, building and safety codes, and other regulations. Interpret architectural drawing and blueprints for the purpose of applying, reviewing and approving University security design standards.

Solicit and review proposals from security vendors, electricians, structured cabling contractors, and general construction vendors. This position is responsible for managing installation vendors.

Facilitate kick-off meetings and host periodic construction meetings. Maintain detailed project schedule status. Provide status update of status to manager as needed. Conduct weekly walkthrough inspections for vendor oversite of ongoing projects and document and address issues and concerns as needed. Make recommendations for final commissioning.

Test system functionality and enforce UF construction standards during substantial completion inspection and providing an issue punch list; re-inspecting the system using issues punch list during final inspection; and trouble shoot system issues to determine warranty implications. Thoroughly test all new camera and access control installations to ensure proper operation.

As a member of the security staff, the incumbent must pass criminal background checks, and requires fingerprints. Incumbent must complete Select Agent Training through UF EH&S Biosafety Office

The typical work schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00AM to 5:00pm. Some overtime may be required.

A post offer health assessment will be conducted.

Expected Salary:

Expected starting salary $56,000 – $66,000 yearly based on experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Six years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Electrical and Construction skills and experience:
Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings and specifications
Working knowledge of construction and low voltage wiring methods, relevant codes and statues
Working knowledge of low voltage, electronics and electromechanical devices
Experience with design, installation and maintenance of electronic access control and electrified door hardware in a complex institutional setting
Basic drafting and CAD experience for the purpose of documentation

General skills and experience:
Experience with oversight of project budgets and effective utilization of resources
Familiarity with current trends and best practices in the areas of automated access control, security cameras, alarm systems, and license plate recognition systems
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to pay close attention to detail
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and/or Physical Security Professional (PSP) preferred
Prior higher education experience preferred

Ability to deal with requests, complaints, clarification of information or provide advice and instruction in a calm, courteous and professional manner.
