Performance Team Registered Dietitian

The Performance Team Registered Dietitian will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive nutrition program for a professional American football team. They will work closely with the performance staff including athletic training, strength and conditioning, and performance sciences. They will work with players developing personalized meal plans and educate on proper nutrition to optimize athletic performance, injury prevention, and overall health. This dietitian will also coordinate food services and management for the team. The role will report to the Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance. This is a full-time position that will require significant travel and evening/weekend work during football season.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive nutrition program for professional American football players, including assess/analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance of athletes for overall wellness and player performance.
  • Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for performance training, competition, recovery, weight management, hydration, immunity, travel, and supplementation.
  • Work closely with performance staff and coaching staff to ensure coordinated nutritional care across all departments within performance/football staff (sports medicine, strength and conditioning, performance science, and coaching).
  • Collaborate with the doctors and medical staff to ensure that players with dietary requirements, allergies, or medical conditions are provided with appropriate meals, snacks and supplementation.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling to support elite players nutritional efforts.
  • Evaluate nutritional supplements for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy.
  • Work with food vendors and suppliers to ensure that the team’s nutrition program is cost-effective and efficient.
  • Stay up to date with current nutrition research, trends, and best practices, and incorporate new knowledge into the team’s nutrition program.
  • Work with football operations with travel management and sleep programming with performance staff.
  • Communicate effectively with players, coaches, and performance staff to ensure that the nutrition processes are clear, concise and implemented correctly.
  • Maintain department budgets including food ordering, catering services, snacks, and performance programming.
  • Develop menus and manage inventory in coordination with catering companies and chef weekly.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Dietitian with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in nutrition or related fields
  • Master’s preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working with athletes, preferably in American football and team settings
  • Strong knowledge of sports nutrition and all-encompassing roles and responsibilities
  • Experience working cross functionally in a collaborative high-performance model with services to various performance departments
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively educate and influence players on nutrition.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team and manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with food service management, recipe development, and athlete management skills
  • Strong organizational and computer skills

Salary range: $90,000 – $150,000
