PEER ADVOCATE-SOM (PART TIME)

Position Summary:

Plays a key role in ensuring that research participants have input into all aspects of a program. Encourages preventive health and health maintenance behavior skills. Engages clients and assists in implementing the further involvement of patients and their families in decision and policy making within the program. Assists in the education of all program consumers and the community. Empowers a client to become an effective self-advocate and an effective contributor to the development, implementation and evaluation of the program. Assists in the development of client need assessments and administration of these assessments; provides feedback regarding the program. Provides proper documentation, in both patient files and clinical data systems, of all services provided.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Peer advocate to play a key role in ensuring that Neonatology NICU patients have improved outcomes.
  • To encourage preventive health and health maintenance behavior skills including increasing breast feeding rates and improved neurodevelopmental outcomes.
  • To engage clients and assists in implementing the further involvement of patients and their families in decision and policy making within Neonatology NICU.
  • Assists in the education of all program consumers and the community.
  • Serve as liaison and assist with appointment reminders to the families (MRIs, home visits, and Newborn Follow-up Clinic Appointments.)
  • Maintain and foster contact with caregiver through phone calls, appointment reminders, directions for appointments.
  • Assists in the development of client need assessments and administration of these assessments.
  • Provides feedback regarding the Neonatology program. Helps patients move through the healthcare system, providing information about study and services available.
  • Assist with providing information regarding resources for both food insecurity and psychological support. Understands the typical obstacles in navigating the healthcare system.
  • Provides proper documentation, in both patient files and clinical data systems, of all services provided.
  • Empowers a client to become an effective self-advocate and an effective contributor to the development, implementation and evaluation of the program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Salary Range: $15.00 – $17.00

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience required.
