for the Physical Therapy Dept.

POSITION PURPOSE AND SUMMARY:
Under general supervision from the OP PT/OT Supervisor, the Physical Therapist Assistant is a qualified professional with the responsibility of direct patient care. Supervision of non-professional staff might also be involved.
Assists the department in maintaining high-quality of clinical practice with a particular focus on a specialized area. Teaching duties include training and development of staff competencies related to the specific specialized area. Consultation will be provided to other staff regarding the evaluative process and problem identification as well as recommendations for treatment approaches. Additionally, has clinical responsibilities for direct patient care. Works with medical staff to keep them informed of physical therapy practice to enhance effective communication and cooperation. Assists in the evaluation of Physical Therapist clinical skills in specialized areas. Assists Supervisor in evaluative procedures that are used in patient evaluations and care plans. Coordinates area continuing education and in-service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reviewing patients’ medical histories
- Diagnosing patients by observing their movements and listening to their concerns
- Developing individualized treatment plans for patients
- Outlining clear goals for patients and the expected outcomes of the plan
- Using exercises, stretching, equipment, and hands-on therapy to manage patients’ pain, increase mobility, and prevent further pain and injury
- Recording patients’ progress and modifying the plan of care if needed
- Educating patients and family members about the recovery process
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program.
- State of Indiana Physical Therapy Assistant license required, or eligible for state licensure within 180 days.
