The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under the direction of the Executive Director, with latitude for independent action or decision-making, the selected incumbent candidate will require the knowledge and skill in applying analytical and evaluative techniques in the identification and resolution of payroll and fiscal issues.
Responsibilities will include but not limited to the following:
• Researching, resolving, and responding to employee time and leave and payroll inquiries.
• Developing and preparing fiscal reports for all programs and units within the agency.
• Prepare, review, and track all fiscal requests.
• Auditing and examining overpayment reports for employees.
• Certifying payroll records.
• Processing and auditing holiday and overtime pay.
• Handling and verifying collective bargaining increases contracts and retroactive pay.
• Responding and handling all telephone and email inquiries from employees.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U. S. Secretary of Education and by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and six months of full-time, satisfactory professional, technical, or administrative experience in one or more of the following fields: program evaluation, contract negotiation/management, fiscal/financial management, or project management; or
2. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of full-time, satisfactory professional, technical, or administrative experience in one or more of the following fields: program evaluation, contract negotiation/management, fiscal/financial management, or project management; or
3. Education and or experience equivalent to 1″ or 2″ above.
Preferred Skills
Our successful candidate should possess; excellent written and verbal communications skills; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and the ability to manage and execute multiple sometimes competing priorities.
Additional Information
1. Selected candidates will be required to provide a DNA sample by swabbing.
2. In cases of an emergency, this position may be designated as essential.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
