Description
Under the general supervision of Recreation Superintendent, performs a wide range of custodial tasks of routine difficulty involving the use of cleaning equipment and materials and set-up. Performs other work as required.
Examples of Duties
- Sweeps, mops, polishes and vacuums.
- Washes walls, windows, woodwork, and mirrors.
- Cleans all rest rooms and fixtures: checks and stocks supplies; ensures that all lavatory installations are working and reports those that need repair.
- Removes and disposes of all rubbish and trash in designated areas.
- Sets up and breaks down tables and chairs for scheduled events.
- Cleans outdoor grounds and removal of rubbish.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
- Answers phones when necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Florida driver’s license is required. Applicants who possess a valid out of state driver’s license must obtain the Florida driver’s license within 10 days of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of building/office cleaning processes, supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and to read directions as provided on cleaning supplies.
- Ability to perform routine physical custodial duties without immediate supervision.
- Ability to operate hand tools and power equipment.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees.
- Ability to work evening and weekend hours as required.
- Ability to work all days of the week and at various times as required
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to hear, speak and understand conversation in a normal tone of voice.
- Ability to see, read, and write.
- Ability to use small hand tools which require the use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
- Ability to move back and forth and sideways while in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position.
- Ability to stay in a bending, kneeling, or squatting position for periods less than 10 minutes.
- Ability to go from a standing or sitting position to a bending, kneeling, or squatting position, or vice-versa, periodically.
- Ability to walk, stand, and sit for periods longer than 30 minutes but not to exceed 8 hours consecutively.
- Ability to walk continuously for more than 5 minutes at a time throughout the working day.
- Ability to lift, carry, push and pull items which weigh up to 50 pounds over uneven terrain, up/down stairs or ladders.
- Ability to carry items for a distance which ranges from 10 feet to no more than 300 yards.
- Ability to lift and/or carry items which are considered awkward to grasp or hold on to.
- Ability to lift items (weighing no more than 50 pounds) above the head or down from over the head.
- Ability to hold items (weighing 1 to 50 pounds) for a period less than 10 minutes.
- Ability to work in undesirable conditions including dust, dirt, heat, humidity, and chemicals.
