The Work You Will Do:

We handle all the spatial data needs of the division, assisting program areas in improving their workflow and getting accustomed to new GIS technology as it evolves. When requested, we provide the program areas with geographic data, maps, and web applications. Outside of requests, we are always looking for new ways to help the division.

  • Overview of primary responsibilities
    • Create and maintain maps, rectify imagery, create image mosaics, perform data analysis, digitize, and do quality control of surveys, plot maps, publish layers to the spatial database engine (SDE).
    • Implement and maintain layers and QC tools to support any of the Division Programs.
    • Responsible for quality assurance/quality control (QAQC) of monitoring data in accordance with established standards and procedures.
    • Help in the maintenance and testing of tools in support of the Division GIS efforts.
    • Provide training, including one-on-one, as well as assist with trainings and presentations related to ArcPro, AGO, MapDirect, and Mobile Device technology.
    • Test and learn new software.
    • Install GIS hardware and software for Division staff.
    • The position performs other related duties as required.
    • Work on long-term GIS projects.

Pay:

$18.00/hour (40hrs./week)

Your Specific Responsibilities:

  • Georeferenced historical imagery for statewide historical mosaic project
  • Assist with GIS requests for program areas.
  • Assist with long-term projects as needed.
  • Data QC for continually updated layers on SDE.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of Surveying concepts such as Coordinate Systems, Projections, Datum, Datum Transformation, Legal Descriptions to ensure the accuracy and precision of the data produced and received.
  • Knowledge of and skill in GIS-related software including but not limited to ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ERDAS Imagine.
  • Ability to operate PC computers, plotters, scanners, and hand-held devices used in the development of the biological data collection.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team to solve problems.
  • Ability to determine work priorities and work effectively and accurately under a deadline.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to interpret scientific or technical data for the public and to prepare short technical reports.
  • Ability to work independently.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma OR equivalent (GED). An official transcript or diploma is required of the selected candidate to confirm qualifications for this position.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 6-months of GIS work or school experience.
