Workforce Analyst

The Workforce Analyst is a subject matter expert in providing human resource-related data needed to proactively support and collaborate with management, business partners, and other internal and external customers to further the mission of Chicago Public Schools. This position develops reports, builds metrics and creates processes that provide data and insight. The Workforce Analyst also assists with HR system maintenance and testing, identifies opportunities for continuous process improvement, and performs a cross-functional role that requires proven SQL-coding skills and outstanding analytical abilities. This position will report to the Director of Workforce Analytics.

The Workforce Analyst will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with internal and external business partners such as Payroll, Benefits, Law, and IT to develop HR-related reports and metrics
  • Use data, such as HR-related historical and forecasting reports/tools, to help drive HR strategies and inform decisions throughout the organization, including future staffing needs, projected retirements, etc.
  • Develop and take ownership of performing various data administration tasks and analyses, including: data mapping, validation, error-checking, importing/exporting, auditing, security maintenance, data protocols
  • Assist with gathering functional requirements, development, testing, implementation and support of various HR-related projects/processes
  • Maintain a variety of PeopleSoft 9.2 HRMS foundation tables and assist in the development and implementation of standard PeopleSoft-related work policies and procedures
  • Participate in ongoing requests and key projects, working both independently and collaborating with other Workforce Analytics team members to make significant contributions and improvements in streamlining processes both within the team and across CPS departments.

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Workforce Analyst must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required
  • Advanced degree or studies in a field related to data analysis is preferred

Type of Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant data analysis work experience is required
  • Data visualization experience in Google Data Studio, Tableau or Power BI is preferred
  • Experience with PeopleSoft HRMS, Taleo BI, or Oracle Business Intelligence / Publisher is preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven SQL programming ability or adjacent knowledge of SAS, Python or R
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to self-direct, balance priorities, coordinate projects and work creatively in a rapidly evolving, demanding environment
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills required; should be able to easily translate technical information to non-technical users
  • Capable of working as a collaborative team member, as well as independently, utilizing all of the resources available to you
  • Demonstrate high levels of analytical expertise, integrity, honesty and credibility
  • Capable of developing a firm understanding of Workforce Analytics applications, workflow, reporting processes and requirements, CPS terminology and database tables

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency – Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated or Submit to Weekly COVID-19 Testing -Employees are required to be fully vaccinated within 30 days of their hire date. Full vaccination is defined as at least two weeks after your second shot of a two-shot vaccination course, or at least two weeks after a one-shot vaccination course. Unvaccinated staff must submit to weekly testing.

CPS Non-Union Job Grade: S07

Estimated Annual Salary Range: $66,000 – $87,500

Final salary offers are dependent upon candidate qualifications.
