Position Purpose (General)
The Engineer I provides general project management and engineering skills in the design, construction, implementation, and completion of all public works construction and related projects for the City.
Position Purpose (Job Specific)
This position will report to Architectural Program Administrator and assist with the design and construction of City projects including all aspects of planning, design, bid preparation, cost estimation, and monitoring of construction compliance. Engineer must be registered and authorized to practice in the State of Texas.
Essential Functions
1 Provides project management over design and Construction contracts for paving, streetscape, alley, drainage, flood control, bridge, sidewalk, erosion control, water, utilities, wastewater main and any other infrastructure improvement projects.
2 Coordinates all phases of the engineering design and construction of capital improvement projects; participates in the development of budget and determining funding; engages, interacts, and collaborates with other departments within the City; communicates and provides responses to citizens, council members, developers, and other City departments regarding project status.
3 Develops, designs, and reviews engineering plans for paving, drainage, erosion control and storm water pollution prevention plans, traffic control and traffic signal, and project schedules; ensures that the proposed infrastructure improvements are of good design quality and that the projects are in compliance with City, State and Federal standards.
4 Reviews and approves engineering design invoices, engineering design submittals, contractor progress payments, and other construction documents.
5 Prepares agenda packages, administrative action packages, and administrative change order packages for engineering design contracts, engineering supplemental agreements, construction contracts, and construction change orders.
6 Collaborates, engages, and works with consultants, inspectors, contractors, engineers, representatives from other agencies within the City and out side, to successfully complete the design and construction of all infrastructure projects; performs occasional site visits to verify progress, responds to engineering concerns, and inspects project specifications and budget adherence.
7 Performs any other work as needed or required.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or Construction Management. (Required)

Experience
One (1) Year in general construction engineering or related. (Required)
AND
Licenses and Certifications
-Professional Engineering License (Professional Engineers with license/registration from other states must obtain the Texas license within six (6) months after appointment.) (Required)
-Valid driver’s license and good driving record. (Required)

-Subject to field-work and inclement weather conditions. May be required to participate in cross-training. (Required)
