Position Purpose (General)
The Architect provides technical and architectural expertise in the design, construction, and related architectural functions for the development and delivery of large scale Capital Improvement projects for the City. Assists in the design, review, and compliance evaluation for buildings, systems, signage, utility requirements, and ADA issues for projects across the City.
Position Purpose (Job Specific)
This architect position will report to Architectural Program Administrator and assist with the design and construction of City projects including all aspects of planning, design, bid preparation, cost estimation, and monitoring of construction compliance. Architect must be registered and authorized to practice in the State of Texas.
Essential Functions
1 Performs architectural design process on both renovation and new construction projects; assists and supports the design consultant selection, contracting process, and compilation of accurate stakeholder requirements.
2 Reviews, checks, and evaluates designs for code compliance and maintains documents for permit process; designs and implements project schedules while protecting original scope of work and budget; adjusts scope, schedule, and budget as approved during design process; oversees the contracting process by developing plans and specifications, handling bids, and assisting in contractor selection and quality control.
3 Provides technical expertise and architectural knowledge for the construction and implementation process on both renovation and new construction projects; negotiates and assists with contract details and information.
4 Reviews and approves consultant invoices and construction pay applications; confirms progress achieved on both design and construction to support payment; coordinates internal approval process and maintains audit-ready records on both design and construction contracts.
5 Serves as professional resource to tenants, design consultants, and developers as non-City owned projects are scoped, designed, and built on City of Dallas property; handles, fields, and processes frequent requests for information on how to initiate, gain departmental approval, achieve City of Dallas building permit, and satisfy all close-out and turnover requirements.
6 Drafts, prepares, and presents reports in various forms for accurate dissemination of project scope, schedule, budget, architecture design, and status.
7 Serves as internal resource for contracting, accounts payable, architectural archives, and potential design and construction ideas.
8 Attends training seminars and other meetings to ensure continuing education is obtained and all licensing requirements are up to date; assists and provides guidance to assistants.
9 Performs any and all other work as needed or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or related field. (Required)
AND
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in Architecture, design, and planning. (Required)
AND
Licenses and Certifications
Architect License in the State of Texas. (Required)
