Job Description

Successful applicants must have previous experience producing broadcast news programs in a contemporary computer-assisted production environment.

KOMU is looking for a staff producer who will be assigned to KOMU 8 Today, the stations morning newscast.

Successful applicants must be able to work with limited supervision in a highly collaborative environment with attention to editorial standards, production requirements and multiple deadlines.

In addition to working in the dynamic and diverse mid-Missouri communities, this is an opportunity to work for the University of Missouri which qualifies the successful applicant for an excellent benefit package including education benefits.

This individual will be expected to produce 60-90 minutes of content in a highly formatted morning show and must be able to work collaboratively with anchors, meteorologists, and directors.

The producer will often work with a student producer who will require some supervision and will expect professional mentoring.

The producer will be expected to demonstrate high quality editorial judgement and will be expected to recognize situations in which additional support is needed to properly cover breaking news.

Given the high degree of computerization involved, it is expected that this individual is comfortable working in various computer applications and able to assist in troubleshooting during potential computer failures.

The producer will also be expected to have demonstrable experience with industry standard digital platforms and social media outlets.

Salary

Salary Range: $16.23 – $28.25 hourly

Grade: GGS 007

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field.

Previous experience producing broadcast news programs.

Demonstrable experience in broadcast and digital writing.

Demonstrable experience editing video in a non-linear environment.

Experience with the iNews or Inception computer assisted news production system.

Experience with Adobe Premiere video editing platform.
