Salary: Pay for this position is determined by the Transportation Salary Schedule and based on experience. Starting wage $15.14-$16.35

Purpose of the Job:
Responsible for the transportation of students to and from schools and in various other District activities. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and district clientele.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: High School Graduate or equivalent

Experience: At least one (1) year job-related experience, must be (21) years of age

Licenses/Certificates: CDL with S & P2 endorsements or willing to complete required training and acquire CDL with S & P2 endorsements after hiring.

Other Criteria:

  • Must complete a fingerprint-based criminal background check and be cleared
  • CDL Physical and Pre-Employment Drug Test required.
  • Will be doing clerical work when not driving a bus or being an aide on a route.
  • Observe the CDE Rules listed in the School Bus Multifunction Bus and Motor Coach Bus Operator Guide.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a school atmosphere with staff members, students and the public.
  • Ability to effectively read, write, speak and listen to comply with directions and instructions to complete tasks and establish priorities
  • Integrity, trust and work ethic to be able to work with little supervision
  • Competent understanding of technology to perform the job
  • Must pass pre-employment physical
  • Ability to maintain control under pressure
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Adequate vision and hearing
  • Good technology skills related to email, word processing
  • Physical strength and coordination to lift 50 pounds and operate the equipment listed.
  • Ability to drive back and forth between buildings, if needed
  • Implements appropriate physical and technical safeguards to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of district data
  • Maintains good security practices with passwords and accounts to the various district systems and applications
  • Reports actual or suspected breaches in the confidentiality, integrity or availability of district data to appropriate district personnel
  • Follows all board policies for acceptable use of district technology.
  • Model the District’s Mission and Belief Statements.
  • May be required to be MANDT trained

Essential Duties of the Job:

  1. Operates assigned school bus in compliance with procedures contained in the District’s policy and procedures, including all local, state and federal laws and Colorado Department of Education (CDE) Rules
  2. Performs daily pre and post route safety inspections on assigned vehicles.
  3. Maintains student conduct that ensures the safety of all students
  4. Assists students with boarding and exiting the bus as necessary
  5. Coordinates with Manager of Transportation and Transportation Secretary to insure all required information is current and accurate
  6. Completes appropriate paperwork and electronic documentation in a timely manner
  7. Attends training programs, meetings and in-services as required by the District or the state. CDE
  8. Administers first aid as necessary
  9. Reports all accidents/incidents immediately to transportation management or appropriate authorities
  10. Possess skills to be able to utilize basic technology as directed by the District to communicate and function effectively as a 21st century employee
  11. Uphold district school vehicle passenger rules
  12. Maintain an acceptable standard of cleanliness of vehicle

Skills, Knowledge, Equipment & Other:

Equipment: Buses and tools necessary to completely and thoroughly conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to the District buses and vehicles in order to provide the most safe and efficient fleet possible.

Defensive driving

Effective communication

Knowledge of District organization, policies and procedures

Observe the CDE Rules listed in the School Bus Multifunction Bus and Motor Coach Bus Operator Guide

Access and read District email

Use transportation specific software for documenting vehicle write ups

Requirements for Essential Functions of the Job:

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; feel or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, waist to overhead, waist to floor and overhead to floor. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a school setting. Travel from site to site may occasionally; be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment ranges is generally quiet with occasional increase when working events or with equipment. Must be able to work in person.

Mental Functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to analyze and compute. Frequently required to compare, communicate, coordinate, instruct, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy, synthesize and negotiate.
