Special School District (SSD) operates two technical schools in St. Louis County, North Tech and South Tech. Through partial day programs, students from all 22 districts in the county attend these courses to earn high school credit, college credit, certifications, licenses, and other advanced credentials. Tech programs are competitive entry and accepted students start attending in either their sophomore (North Tech only) or junior/senior (North and South Tech) year of high school.

POSITION OVERVIEW
Career and technical education teachers leverage their real world experience to prepare, educate, and inspire high school students to succeed in postsecondary education, the highly competitive world of work, and life. You will provide dynamic instruction, coordinate field experiences, connect students to industry partners, and prepare students for relevant industry certifications. You do not need a teacher certification upon hire, but must be willing to obtain career and technical education certification through the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and complete up to 18 college credit hours to earn their Career and Technical Education Teaching Certificate.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, plans, and implements lessons aligned to the board approved curriculum and utilize evidence based instructional practices and strategies
  • Meets and instructs assigned students in the locations and at the times designated
  • Regularly evaluates the progress of student learning through multiple methods
  • Prepares students for and administers necessary assessments for relevant industry recognized certifications (IRCs) and credentials
  • Establishes an industry appropriate and safe learning environment that optimizes student learning
  • Takes reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Seeks opportunities to expand and develop as an educator through professional learning, strives to maintain professional competence
  • Collaborates with industry partners and facilitates program advisory board meetings
  • Collaborates with the building team as needed, including but not limited to administrators, teachers, counselors, support personnel and/or staff
  • Participates in the budget process including development of the program budget, submits orders, tracks requests and purchases, and follows administrative procedures
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as requested
  • Within reason, when required or requested, makes self available to students and families outside the instructional day for education-related purposes
  • Maintains complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
  • Maintains ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education

  • One or more years of experience with video editing, sound editing, image editing and other multimedia editing software as well as familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud preferred

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • DESE Business Education certification is required

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary 2022-2023 school year

Range: $44,900 – $71,550 based on experience and education
