The Boeing Company is seeking a Product Support Engineer to support the Dreamlifter Large Cargo Freighter (LCF) in North Charleston, SC. This position will help to resolve in-service issues with the highly modified 747-400LCF Dreamlifters and work hand in hand with the air operations team and 747 fleet team office. This position will work closely with the operator to ensure our fleet is operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

Primary responsibilities include identifying and overseeing part obsolescence issues and working with suppliers to drive engineering solutions. Liaison between Dreamlifter operator, 747 fleet team office and suppliers to solve engineering issues. Support aircraft line maintenance and heavy maintenance including but not limited to: Service Requests (SRs), Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events, special inspection planning/execution, Service Bulletin (SB) modifications and Air Worthiness (AD) Directives.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify and oversee part obsolescence solutions for the LCF fleet which entails design, analysis, procurement, and certification of critical aircraft components.
  • Coordinates with the Dreamlifter Air Operations team to resolve Service Requests (SRs), Aircraft on Ground (AOG) and other emergent issues.
  • Identify and drive engineering changes that support complex solutions for in-service fleet.
  • Analyzes and conducts root cause analysis for in service issues.
  • Applies knowledge of Boeing design principles to assess and resolve product/process issues through the product lifecycle.
  • Develops and implements product/process improvements.
  • Supports Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and participates in design reviews.
  • Tracks and improves in-service life cycle requirements, design service objectives for the LCF, and limit of validity.
  • Integrates with the 747 fleet team office for Safety Review Board and Safety Related Problem as it relates to the LCF.
  • Supports aircraft line maintenance, heavy maintenance, and special inspection planning (AD/SB/AMOC/SSID) to optimize inspection program for the LCF fleet.
  • Participates in airline wellness review activity to ensure supplier compliance and readiness to regulatory requirements.
  • Develops financial forecasts, tracks capital and expense items to long range business plan.
  • Supports 787 production schedule and daily interface with Dreamlifter program leadership.
  • Implements Lean+ into daily statement of work and shared responsibilities for Boeing South Carolina Dreamlifter Operations Center.

Work Authorization Statement:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Must currently possess a Bachelor’s or Masters of Science degree from an accredited course of study in Physics, Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • 5 or more years of experience in systems/structures engineering.
  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills are required.
  • The candidate must be willing to respond to worldwide operational/AOG requirements in support of 24/7 operations and must be able to work with a diverse team and in an environment that supports flexible work schedules.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 or more years of experience working with MRB (Material Review Board) activities related to aircraft structures.
  • Experience working transport category airplane certification or production/fleet support projects involving FAA approval.
  • Fleet support experience including Safety Review Board and Safety Related Problem assessments.
  • Airline/Maintenance Repair Overhaul experience
  • 747 Operations experience

Typical Education/Experience:

Mid-Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Senior: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years’ related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years’ related work experience, Master+7 years’ related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level: $88,400- $119,600

Senior Level: $107,950- $146,050
