Barnes & Noble Education is seeking a motivated, curious, goal-oriented undergraduate student to join The Hammes Notre Dame Bookstore as a Marketing Intern for the academic year 2023-24. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical marketing experience in a fast-paced retail environment while developing essential marketing analytics, content, brand, and human-centered design skills. The Marketing Intern will support various marketing initiatives to promote our bookstore and enhance the overall student experience.
How You’ll Make an Impact
Fall Semester Responsibilities:
- Digital and Print Content Creation: Collaborate with the marketing team to plan, create, and execute engaging content for social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) and maintain a consistent online presence.
- On-Campus Student Experience: Assist in the development and execution of marketing campaigns and on-campus student integrations, including digital marketing, social media, email marketing, and event advertising to engage and enhance the overall student experience.
- Experiential Marketing Support: Help promote in-house special events (such as book signings, author visits, and student discount programs) through web, email, digital advertising, and regional marketing strategies.
- ECommerce & Consumer Insights: Conduct monthly market research to identify current trends, customer preferences, and competitor analysis to inform marketing strategies.
Spring Semester Responsibilities:
- Portfolio Project: Combine classroom learning with a real-world project to optimize an area of brand, retail, and consumer marketing for the bookstore.
- Research and Analysis: With guidance from the Marketing Manager, conduct in-depth research and analysis on marketing strategies and trends related to the bookstore retail industry, destination retail environments, experiential brand position, or a combination of relevant topics.
- Proposal Development: With guidance from the Marketing Manager, draft and develop a comprehensive proposal outlining the optimized marketing strategy and its potential impact on the bookstore’s brand and consumer engagement.
- Execution and Evaluation: With guidance from the Marketing Manager, create 2-3 KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) to goal around during implementation of proposed marketing strategy, which must include (1) KPI to monitor qualitative and quantitative impact of proposal on key stakeholders.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure the project aligns with the bookstore’s overall marketing goals.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- Must be a current undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame, pursuing a degree in marketing, business, communications, or a related field.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create engaging content for different platforms.
- Proficient in social media management and knowledgeable about current digital marketing trends.
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, capable of managing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Familiarity with design software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator) is a plus.
- Prior marketing or retail experience is desirable, but not required.
How We Elevate Our Employees
The hiring rate for this position is $15 per hour.
This is a part-time position (15 – 20 hours / week) and follows an on-site work structure. This position offers the flexibility to work one day per week remotely (optional) to accommodate academic loads and scholarships.
