The globally recognized Samuel Zell & Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies (ZLI) provides the curriculum, program plans, community involvement, and alumni outreach activities that deliver resources for future entrepreneurs and investors. Responsibilities:
The Marketing & Communications (MarComm) Manager reports to the Managing Director. The MarComm Manager is responsible for the Institute’s communications with both internal members (students, alumni, and U-M units) and external audiences (prospective students, community members, entrepreneurs, investors, corporate partners, peer institutes, and other entrepreneurship experts) through content creation, curation, and promotion. You will, in partnership with the Executive Director and Managing Director, develop and implement a marketing and communications strategy to engage the Institute’s community and broader partners through publications, digital marketing, the Institute’s website, social media, and other media relations. You will manage the Marketing and Data Reporting Analyst.
Marketing & Communications
- Develop marketing plan for each of the Institute’s programs.
- Create and distribute the Institute’s student e-newsletter.
- Produce all publications including annual report and external-facing newsletter.
- Create all marketing and promotional materials.
- Strengthen the Institute’s current social media presence, including WordPress blog, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn, while researching and recommending new platforms to increase the Institute’s digital reach and influence.
- Represent the Institute at campus-wide MarComm meetings.
Brand Development & Management
- Strengthen the Institute’s brand and position and ensure it uses our assets and distinguish us from competitors.
- Develop messaging for use by Institute staff, faculty, and other U-M units, and conduct staff training.
- Create templates (e.g. PowerPoint, letterhead).
- Manage logo updates to keep up with U-M guidelines
Public Relations
- Develop the Institute’s Public Relations campaign.
- Write and coordinate press releases for several programs.
- Meet with staff, faculty, and main members of the business community to ensure understanding of the Institute’s goals and messaging.
- Work with website developer to maintain website.
- Develop metrics to track outputs, outcomes, and impact of new website.
- Oversee and perform regular update of website content.
Database Management & Metrics Tracking
- Oversee development of a database of contacts for everyone connected to the Institute, including tracking interactions, contact details, communication preferences and create analytics systems to track progress on important metrics.
- Manage annual ranking reports process.
Management
- Select, and oversee assigned staff; establish and model performance expectations and standards to foster a positive, high-service, learning and culture.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. At least five years of relevant progressive work experience in marketing and communications, or a combination of education and experience required. Masters Degree is a plus.
- Supervisory experience is required.
- Successful demonstrated experience using social media platforms to attract followers and position the Institute among its main audiences.
- Experience in website design, implementation, and maintenance.
- Experience working with customer relationship management data systems.
- The ability to work with a diverse group of people such as faculty, staff, participants and vendors, along with multiple offices within the University (including corporate representatives) at all levels.
- Use of Microsoft Office Suites
- Use WordPress, Salesforce, Mailchimp, and Adobe Illustrator.
- Skills testing may be required.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- You will communicate with students, faculty, external members about programs, events.
- You will present information at events.
- You will occasionally move through the building to attend meetings/events and access files or information.
- Will require work during early mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Occasional domestic travel.

Salary Information: The general salary range for this position is $63,000-$70,000. You can expect to be paid a great compensation package. Factors used to determine salary include experience, knowledge and skills for the position. You are encouraged to discuss salary questions to honor alignment and transparency throughout the recruiting process.
