Manager, Volunteer Services

CVNL’s Volunteer Services Manager enhances the impact of volunteerism by working with nonprofits, community agencies, and businesses. The Manager handles a wide variety of concurrent activities and will manage the Volunteer Services Program staff. This person is a leader in the department’s efforts across all of the counties we serve, leading volunteer recruitment efforts, developing and managing Days of Service, leading corporate engagement projects, managing the online matching portal, and supporting the Volunteer Manager Peer Learning Network. To prepare for disasters, the Manager takes a lead role as one of CVNL’s representatives on one or more Community Agencies Responding to Disaster cohorts. During declared disasters and emergencies, the Manager oversees the Emergency Volunteer Center. This role is instrumental in ensuring that CVNL fulfills its mission of equipping strong nonprofits with confident and prepared leaders and volunteers.

Primary Responsibilities

Volunteer Recruitment, Matching and Recognition.

  • Recruit and manage volunteers using the online volunteer matching portal VolunteerNow.org.
  • Recruit volunteers by conducting presentations to community groups; coordinate key outreach activities in conjunction with strategic initiatives.
  • Plan and implement Days of Service.
  • Manage and track program information including volunteers and their hours, volunteer leaders and volunteer opportunities.
  • Manage the database portal VolunteerNow.org in collaboration with other VS team members.
  • Recruit local on-site office, event, and support volunteers; manage departmental volunteers.
  • Refer volunteers to other departments, and support departmental volunteer recruitment efforts
  • Foster relationships with volunteer groups (schools, community groups, corporations, faith-based organizations, etc.).

Disaster Readiness

  • Serve as the local Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) leader for the counties CVNL serves or support the EVC lead as needed.
  • Represent CVNL at COAD or VOAD and long-term recovery groups.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with local emergency management personnel.
  • Conduct online and in-person nonprofit-focused trainings on topics such as: emergency volunteer management; continuity of operations planning; disaster communication; disaster preparedness for employees and families, and more.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with local emergency management personnel.
  • Manage disaster-related contracts with local government agencies and funders

Nonprofit Capacity Building on Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with service providers, organizational and government/public partners, including nonprofit agencies.
  • Create and facilitate volunteer engagement trainings and workshops as needed on topics such as the Volunteer Engagement Training Program.
  • Facilitate and Manage the Volunteer Manager Peer Learning Network in collaboration with other VS team members.
  • Assist Event Manager, Human Race Coordinator, and Secret Santa coordinators as appropriate and needed to secure Volunteer nominations and/or volunteers for events.
  • Identify and track emerging trends and needs in the nonprofit sector.
  • Foster relationships with nonprofit staff to promote the hosting of corporate volunteering projects, participation in Learning & Leadership trainings, usage of CVNL consulting and executive search, and learning best practices from one another.

Other

  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with service providers, organizational and government/public partners, including nonprofit agencies.
  • Assist in the planning and promotion of Volunteer Services by representing CVNL at relevant community forums and event
  • Work closely with the Marketing and Communications to draft effective messages and strategies to target communities.
  • Generate and compile reports, metrics and outcomes.

Expected Hours of Work/Travel:This is an onsite position is based out of either our Santa Rosa or San Rafael office with occasional travel within the four North Bay communities we serve with standard mileage reimbursements available. Standard hours are Monday through Friday 9am-5pm with the ability to work occasional events or meetings on weekends or evenings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Work, related field or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the nonprofit sector preferably in Volunteer Services programs.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience with staff.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate and manage staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of volunteer management best practices
  • Experience in project manager and familiar with project management software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, CRM and volunteer management software
  • Experienced with Constant Contact or MailChimp, contact databases and Social Media.
  • Experience with event planning and project management.
  • Knowledge and ability to work with social media and marketing programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, while still being detail oriented
  • Ability to relate to clients, volunteers and staff in a professional, efficient, friendly, calm and helpful manner
  • Knowledge of budgeting and reporting
  • Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse groups of varying cultures, ethnicities, age groups, abilities, etc.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid CA driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.

Compensation:
The budgeted starting salary that CVNL reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000 to $75,000 annually. This takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, external market comparisons for similar positions in similar geographic locations and size. Offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
