JOB SUMMARY

Marriott’s Global Design Strategies team is looking for an individual to support its sustainability efforts and is excited about joining a team that thrives when/where design and travel converge. Serve360 and the commitment to net-zero emissions, in line with the criteria and recommendations of the Science Based Targets initiative, will help serve as the guides for the company’s efforts.

This is an opportunity to support and evolve Global Design’s sustainability efforts working across the organization. The role will help redefine Marriott’s standards, specifications, and guidelines to ensure Global Design supports company sustainability goals. In addition, the role will help explore innovations in the systems and materials used in the design, construction, and operation of hotel properties globally.

This candidate is a quick thinker, problem solver and an excellent communicator who is impact driven. To deliver genuine value in an ever-changing business climate, this individual will need to work collaboratively across several Marriott departments (Global Design, Global Operations, Brand, Finance & Accounting, Legal, Technology and others) and external stakeholders (consultants, vendors, owners, franchisees and others). This role is global in scope and supports the interfaces with Marriott’s global regions (US & Canada, Europe, Middle East & Africa, Asia Pacific & China, Caribbean & Latin America) as required by the Global Design Director of Sustainability.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

  • Engage with key internal (Global Design, Global Operations, Development, Owner & Franchise Services and others) and external stakeholders (Owners, Franchisees, Vendors and Consultants) to promote the company’s Serve 360 platform and sustainability strategy to achieve desired objectives.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of key metrics and reporting tools and implement innovative solutions to meet Marriott’s global sustainability goals.
  • Deliver field-ready tools, strategic assessments, best practices, and benchmarking to support the needs of the organization.
  • Establish guidelines, standards, and processes for successful execution of new build, renovation, and conversion projects in the Marriott portfolio of hotels for use by owners, franchisees, contractors and design teams.
  • Develop and deliver training to support continuing sustainability education of associates.
  • Perform research and seek innovative products or systems that will propel the company froward to meet its sustainability goals.
  • Analyze data as required to develop and maintain key metrics and reporting tools.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative market and vendor research to keep abreast of latest developments in sustainability thinking and practice to continually improve Marriott’s sustainability program. Analyze trends and the competitive landscape to influence changes to the strategy.
  • Be the voice of Global Design Sustainability during evolution of various initiatives, ensuring sustainability is incorporated wherever possible.
  • Advocate for change within the company, promoting awareness of sustainability issues and their relevance to the business.
  • Collaborate across functions to embed sustainability into core business processes.
  • Perform design reviews as needed by continents and business needs.
  • Develop strong relationships and provide constant and consistent communications with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Special projects as required by business needs.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to interpret and translate data into key learnings and execution plans that drive business results.
  • Familiarity with carbon accounting and reporting standards.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years experience working in sustainability or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Certification in LEED, BREEAM, or similar program preferred.
  • Commissioning, construction, or site support experience a plus

California Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $70,838.00 to $151,428.00 annually.

Colorado Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $70,838.00 to $137,661.00 annually.

New York City & Westchester County, NY Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $85,714.00 to $151,428.00 annually.

Washington Applicants Only: The salary range for this position is $70,838.00 to $151,428.00 annually. In addition to the annual salary, the position will be eligible to receive an annual bonus. Employees will accrue 0.4616 PTO balance for every hour worked and eligible to receive minimum of 7 holidays annually.
