Purpose
~ This position is responsible for the strategic development and implementation of publicity for Product Public Relations with a specialized focus on Quality and Service.
~ Enhance the communications launch of Hyundai new vehicle lines (specifically sedans) via development of strategic launch plans and tactics for new products with Sr. Group Manager.
~ Provide support for Product PR team senior managers in the development of launch strategies, material development and execution.
~ Work closely with communications teams at Hyundai production plants in the U.S. (Alabama and Georgia) to identify opportunities to tell growth story and commitment to investments and economic development in U.S. market at a national level.
~ Conduct competitive analysis and evaluate offerings from various publicity programs on quality, innovation, value to the customer, and provide strategic recommendations on return-on-investment and new programming and promotional opportunities.
Major Responsibilities
~ Responsible for product PR launch strategy for all new major and existing sedan models. Includes; planning, development, and execution at major auto shows (New York, LA, Detroit and Chicago) and other offsite venues/events.
~ Develop product PR strategy and vehicle positioning, major script editing/revision, show video and photography product positioning and development, extensive vehicle introduction press releases, Q&A refinement and development, company spokesman message training and executive interview support, etc.
~ Oversee PR launch programming related to assigned vehicle priorities including (but not limited to) national and regional drive programs, press association events and other industry events and conferences.
~ Provide strong conceptual support for HMA auto show strategy and general media event planning decks.
~ Present and receive executive approvals for strategic plans as required. Develop creative and insightful PR
direction concepts, including media launch location confirmations and corresponding event tonality/points of emphasis for optimal media positioning of HMA products.
~ Ad hoc strategic writing support for executive and corporate speeches (especially activities related to manufacturing plants), corporate PR Q&A’s (both raw content-generation and editing), and various elevated corporate PR messaging.
~ Subject matter expert media support for various interview requests related to quality, assurance, and service both at major media events and via phone interviews, with and without top executives.
Major Responsibilities (continued)
~ Coordination with various dealer groups including (but not limited to) management of news from a corporate/brand level, information sharing, message development and overall dealer support.
~ Assist with communication to Hyundai’s dealer body as needed.
~ Oversee corporate and product PR news as it relates to new products/models and/or quality and service offerings including press release development, script editing for various presentations and event coordination.
~Develop inter-departmental recap reports and presentations showcasing PR teamwork, plans and results.
~ Maximize or minimize the impact from quality and service results and surveys including (but not limited to): J.D. Power Survey Results (IQS, VDS, Appeal, CSI, SSI) and Consumer Reports, Car Care Service, Owner Marketing, Social Media and Crash Parts.
~ Create all media materials needed to handle the increasing number of new service program announcements.
~ Draft press releases for dealer customer satisfaction results.
~ Proactively develop pitch points and media fodder around overall quality, service, and assurance messaging (around and outside of tentpole PR moments).
~ Coordinate with other staff within the department to ensure this storyline and narrative is carried through all product and brand communications.
~ Conduct media relations activities and develop new storylines for areas of responsibility.
Authority
~ Directs and implements public relations strategies and events.
~ Communicate and resolve issues to management and various business partners.
~ Manage various supplier relations.
~ Make appropriate decisions in the absence of Sr. Managers and Sr. Group Manager.
~ Lead and direct the work of agency personnel who may be supporting some projects.
~ Manage media relations, announcements, editorial placement, and speaking opportunities for PR projects dealing with Product PR, Quality, Service and Assurance PR.
~ Develop press releases, briefing documents and supporting materials without supervision.
~ Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
Education
~ Must be a high school graduate
~ Bachelor’s degree preferred
~ Master’s degree a plus
Related Experience
~ 6+ years of experience of which at least 5 years are directly related experience in automotive, project and vendor relationship management at an automotive OEM.
~ 6+ years of recent public relations and/or marketing communications experience required.
~ 6 + years of supervisory experience of agency or internal staff.
~ Product planning or product strategy or brand experience a plus.
Skills/Knowledge
~ Extensive understanding of automotive industry, technology, vehicle positioning, competitive advantages, design and powertrain performance.
~ High quality and insightful writing capability on complex issues with minimal supervision.
~ Strong understanding of product planning, strategy, marketing, brand and PR inter-relationships and cross function.
~ Proficiency in the use of the Microsoft suite required.
