Manager, ASHE Content Development & Communications

The American Hospital Association (AHA) is a national organization that represents and serves all types of hospitals, health care networks, and their patients and communities. The AHA has two main offices, located in Washington, D.C. and Chicago. We are currently seeking a Manager, ASHE Content Development and Communications for our downtown Chicago office. This position is a hybrid role (three days in the office, two days working remote).

Starting base salary = $86,000 – $107,000 a year (commensurate with related experience).

Responsible for the ASHE team’s strategic planning, development, implementation and quality of content, including content and communications produced by education, advocacy, publications, member and chapter engagement, industry research and more. Manages the writing and editing processes for ASHE content development and communications and approves content and communications for publication. Manages ASHE’s assistant editor, sr. training and education specialist and contract writers, editors, designers and others.

Frequently collaborates with ASHE leadership and staff to plan and execute content and communications projects on schedule and according to established budgets. Cultivates and manages relationships with contract workers, business partners and internal and external SMEs to inform content development and communications. Monitors data and insights on ASHE members and evolving issues and trends affecting health care facility professionals while constantly evaluating ASHE’s content and communications programs to meet relevant needs. As part of ASHE’s management team, the Content Development and Communications Manager promotes a culture of innovation, collaboration and psychological safety.

  1. Co-leads content strategy for the ASHE portfolio, including development, implementation, evaluation, categorization and storage/documentation.
  2. Revises and improves content created by others to ensure it aligns with strategy and appeals to the ASHE member audience. As needed, writes, edits and proofreads content pieces, overseeing SME engagement when required.
  3. Manages ASHE external communications in collaboration with the ASHE team and Field Engagement centralized marketing team, including the frequency, tone and delivery methods of communications.
  4. Continually monitors member challenges and needs and leads content development and communications to address them; ensures the application of data to inform content in collaboration with ASHE team and support from other PMG colleagues.
  5. Maximizes ASHE’s body knowledge in development of content, including publications, education, articles, reports, tools, etc.
  6. Improves existing internal and external communication channels and builds new ones.
  7. Directs the work of writers, editors, researchers, designers and others, and coordinates with entire ASHE team and leadership to plan and execute projects on schedule and within budget.
  8. Ensures content upholds AHA/ASHE branding and tone and aligns with AHA/ASHE advocacy positions.
  9. In collaboration with ASHE team members, manages stakeholder expectations on timeline, process and deliverables for content.
  10. Develops and manages communication financials or budgets for ASHE programs and services.
  11. Stays abreast of the latest content development and communication trends and techniques, and identifies and determines appropriate applications within ASHE communications strategy.
  12. Writes/develops scripts as needed for the PDC Summit and ASHE Annual conference and other events.
  13. Contributes to a positive work environment.
