ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking a one – year Full-Time Long Term Substitute (temporary) Office Technologies and Computer Information Competency Professor commencing with the fall 2023 semester. This assignment also includes curriculum development, participation in the shared governance process through work in normal professional activities, committee work, and student activities. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Pacific Coast campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off-campus sites within the community, and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, OR
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.
  • Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.

All candidates must demonstrate

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Business Education, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, or Information Service.
  • Candidates must be willing to teach both in person and virtually, on campus and at offsite campus locations within the community, and in the evenings and on weekends
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable
  • At least three years of recent experience teaching computer application courses.
  • Three or more years of experience in business communications and office productivity.
  • Educational and/or instructional preparation in business communications, computer applications, and computer keyboarding.
  • Participation in student success initiative in post-secondary setting.
  • Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of a diverse student population.
  • Evidence of ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
  • Evidence of an ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge level (developmental through transfer) and personality of each individual and class.
  • Evidence of an ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidenced-based assessment of student learning.
  • Evidence of innovation, scholarship, or leadership in the teaching of computer applications.
  • Desire and evidence of an ability to take on leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole.
  • Commitment to the Mission and Strategic Objectives of Long Beach Community College District.
  • Ability to work with computers and use the Internet and interactive technologies to engage students in on-campus and on-line courses and intrinsic motivation and ability to develop and teach on-line courses (where academically appropriate).
