What Your Job Will Be Like
Would you like to join a dynamic facilities team responsible for delivering capital construction projects for Sandia? If so, you could be the experienced Construction Manager we are seeking to join our team!
The Capital Acquisition Project Management Department is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to provide construction management services for line-item building and infrastructure projects. Line-Item construction projects are greater than $30M in value and support current and future mission needs for NNSA.
At Sandia National Laboratories, Construction Managers are accountable for construction work activities being performed by external construction companies. Construction Managers assure project success by managing the safety, schedule, budget and quality of the construction effort and assure that project requirements are met.
In this role, you can expect a fast-paced environment where you will manage one large (>$100M) construction effort. You will proactively seek out issues and resolve them quickly; develop solutions for complex challenges, assemble teams to assure decisions are comprehensive and complete, reduce operational impacts, and assure accurate project costs from the construction contractors.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Provide construction management services and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and under budget.
- Ensure compliance with DOE, NNSA, and corporate requirements to develop and deliver completed construction projects safely and effectively.
- Oversee all activities performed by construction contractors.
- Facilitate and participate in regular construction progress meetings.
- Coordinate with construction management support, ES&H teams, system engineers, end users, and inspectors to effectively schedule and manage all construction work.
- Collaborate with project controls personnel to schedule activities, manage progress, and ensure appropriate invoicing.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager and Control Account Managers (CAMs.)
- Act as the Sandia Delegated Representative on the construction contract, including negotiating scope changes and administering contract performance evaluations.
- Be an ambassador for site-wide construction safety.
Due to the nature of the work, once construction activities begin, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range
$88,600 – $172,300
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline plus five (5) years of Construction Management experience; or Master’s degree in relevant field plus one (1) year of Construction Management experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- Experience performing Construction Manager services on large (greater than or equal to $10M) construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience with executing construction projects in accordance with DOE Order 413.3B.
- Seven or more years’ experience in construction management.
- Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification and/or certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), project scheduling and risk management.
- Experience with Integrated Master Schedules, EVM Systems, and Baseline Change Control (BCC) systems and procedures.
- Contract development (including negotiations) and monitoring experience.
- Experience with Construction Manager At-Risk project delivery methods.
- Pursuit/completion of an advanced technical degree in construction/project management or related field.
- Experience with Newforma, Primavera and/or Cobra software.
- At least one (1) year of experience working with Sandia construction processes and procedures.
- OSHA-10-hour (or higher) training and knowledge of International Building Codes (IBC).
- Strong organizational, negotiation, time management, and leadership skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
- Ability to lead technical teams to solutions while balancing objectives such as cost, schedule, performance, quality, and safety.
- Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems.
- Ability to implement system processes using the latest technical approaches, handle frequent changing priorities, and coordinate multiple activities.
About Our Team
The Capital Acquisition Project Management department is responsible for the execution of capital construction projects within the overarching portfolio that meet the requirements of DOE O413.3B.
