Responsibilities
The Legal Specialist is responsible for initiating and producing complex work at a high level of competence in the field of immigration law. Work product is self-directed and requires significant independent judgment and discretion. Advanced knowledge and understanding of employment-based, student-based, and clinical training immigration processes, procedures, rules and regulations is required. The Legal Specialist provides leadership and is considered an expert in one or more areas of law; performs research, educates, and updates clients/departments on specific immigration-related topics; and may take the lead on significant process-improvement and technology implementation projects. The Legal Specialist will be responsible for case management of filings to be prepared by outside immigration counsel.
This vacancy is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicant will be expected to work as a Designated School Official/Alternate Responsible Officer and per federal law must be a U.S. Citizen or a U.S. Legal Permanent Resident.
** This position is telework and may require intermittent time at one of our Mayo Clinic sites in AZ, FL, Rochester, MN or Eau Claire WI. Individuals must live within driving distance to one of the Mayo Clinic sites.

Qualifications
Qualified candidates will meet one of the following education requirements: a four-year degree and a paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA) certified program; a bachelor’s degree from an ABA-approved paralegal educational program; or a J.D. degree. Five years of relevant legal experience required. A J.D. degree may be substituted for required experience. A bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years of senior-level paralegal experience, may be substituted for all previously noted requirements.

License/Certification
Completion of PACE (Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam), other professional designations (advanced certification in specific practice area), or a Master’s degree preferred. Completion of the Mayo Clinic Project Management Course or equivalent preferred.
