Minimum Starting Salary:Legal Secretary I$18.40 – $23.46 per hour, depending on qualificationsLegal Secretary II$19.51 – $24.87 per hour, depending on qualifications
Nature of Work:
Performs a variety of interesting, complex, and confidential secretarial assignments for attorneys handling civil and administrative law matters including extensive litigation, and performs other general office duties. Work is of greater than average difficulty and requires accuracy, conformity to City policies and procedures as well as court requirements, and is almost always deadline-sensitive. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with interruptions and multiple projects with frequently changing priorities and deadlines is needed. Work as a team to serve the interests of the City, its residents and visitors in collegial environment. Screens calls from the general public, municipal employees, department managers, the judiciary, and others. Expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment in responding to inquiries from municipal employees, department managers, outside attorneys and the general public, and in recognizing and elevating priority matters.
Minimum Requirements
Legal Secretary I: High school graduate required, preferably supplemented by legal secretarial courses, and two years secretarial experience required; or an equivalent combination of training and experience required. Must type 40 WPM or greater.
Legal Secretary II: Same as Legal Secretary I, above, except requires three years secretarial experience required as specified, above, six months of which must have been as a Legal Secretary.
TYPING TEST
- Tests are administered by invitation only.
- Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited via email. Invitations will be sent to the email address listed on the application.
- Applicants will have (3) three days from the date of the invitation to complete the test. Tests may be completed virtually or onsite.
- Applicants are allowed one opportunity to pass the typing test within a posting period or any given 30 days. Scores are valid for one year.
