The Legal Information Center Manager – U.S. will oversee the daily functions of the U.S. Legal Information Center including but not limited to providing timely legal research and information to attorneys and business services personnel as requested. Legal Information Center Manager – U.S. will also be responsible for training of staff to ensure updated research/knowledge methods are followed to provide best practices and timely response time. Legal Information Center Manager – U.S. will also recommend new technologies or processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Supervises and meets regularly with the management team and Reference/Research Specialists to discuss and resolve workload and technical issues, project status, and client needs
- Administers the department’s integrated library system (catalog, serials control, acquisitions, routing, etc.)
- Develops, implements and maintains library technical services policies and procedures
- Partners with CAO to facilitate information resource renewals; including review of all subscription renewals, verification of the need to renew, recommends cancellations of materials
- Works closely with professional support lawyers and Global Chief Innovation Officer with various innovation related requests
- Partners with and assists Procurement with firmwide contract management duties; follows the Firm’s Vendor Management Policy for all applicable vendors and products
- Oversees invoice processing through review of allocation information to verify and ensure proper allocation to the correct department/office
- Plans and implements modifications of the various department software programs to meet the needs of the firm including in-depth research and compilation of legislative and regulatory histories
- Oversees the cataloging of books, periodicals, memoranda, and pamphlets according to adopted cataloging standards for all U.S. offices
- Establishes and updates local cataloging policy
- Maintains quality of bibliographic records
- Analyzes current database condition; catalogue processes for improvements
- Assists Reference/Research team with overflow business, legal, and general research requests as needed
- Oversees interlibrary loans and document retrieval from external sources
- Evaluates the various methods of information retrieval for the purpose of future budgeting
- Assists in the preparation of the annual Legal Information budget
- Conducts orientation for new attorneys
- Participates in the hiring, evaluation and disciplinary process for the Legal Information Staff
- Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
Qualifications
Education/Training/Certifications:
- BA required, Master of Library Science (MLS/MLIS) highly preferred
Professional Experience:
- Minimum 7 years professional experience in a law firm, academic law library, or special library setting required; 3 years of experience in a law firm preferred
- Prior experience managing acquisitions and/or contract negotiations
- Familiar with interlibrary loan procedures, state policies, and copyright laws
- Previous supervisory experience, required
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, required
- Thorough knowledge of Lexis/Nexis and Westlaw required. Knowledge of other platforms utilized by various practice groups in particular, corporate, tax, securities, finance and litigation a plus
- Knowledge of inter/intranet applications, required
- Ability to comprehend all aspects of emerging technology as it affects the legal and business profession, i.e., A.I., analytics and API

- Manages processes for direct reports in regards to performance appraisals, annual compensation, goal setting and performance counselling
- Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
- Operational budget analysis and recommendations
- Conducts analysis of staffing levels and participation in the recruitment process
- Able to determine and implement change processes to improve workflow efficiencies
- Process- and service-oriented with strong leadership and project management skills
- Able to set priorities and delegate in an efficient manner
Physical Requirements:
- May require occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs
- May require travel to other offices as needed
The typical NY pay scale for this position is between $148,000 and $174,000, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified below.
