Lecturer – First Year Writing Program

The Boise State University First-Year Writing Program , a leader in innovation, collaboration, and scholarship, invites applications for the position of Lecturer. We seek educators who are energized by the possibilities of first-year writing to join our community. We encourage creative thinking throughout our program and seek colleagues who are interested in exploring innovations in first-year writing pedagogy and staffing. We are specifically interested in candidates who can teach and manage high-enrollment, high-impact (HE/HI) courses in a variety of modalities.

Our two-part first-year writing course sequence focuses on inquiry, reflection, rhetorical awareness, writing transfer, ongoing research, and extensive writing in non-fiction real-world genres. Faculty in the First-Year Writing program work toward the same course learning outcomes and common student experiences that reflect best practices for first-year writing. The position is a renewable nine-month, non-tenure accruing appointment.

Lecturers in this position are expected to have a high degree of knowledge in first-year writing pedagogy and theory in order to explore the best practices of our discipline and to provide mentorship and support to others. Applicants should have an interest in large, complex projects involving various stakeholders, and they should have strong communication, organization, and time management skills. First-year writing faculty receive mentorship and professional development and they will benefit from joining a well-established teaching mentorship program.

First-Year Writing Lecturers join an active community and play a vital role in Boise State’s new First Year Experience initiative. We have more than one available position. Remote options are potentially available.
