We are looking for a passionate Lead Estimator – Americas to help achieve that mission.
The Lead Estimator – Americas is responsible for the development and maintenance of estimates and cost targets for datacenter builds. This role will be concentrated Estimating for special projects within the Datacenter space and overall support. The individual selected will manage all cost estimates, cost data, communications, scheduling of meetings and act a point of contact between internal and external parties for specific projects, projects or regions being supported. You will work closely with engineering, construction, procurement, security, networking, and the operations teams throughout each project, and ensure cost information developed and managed meets the requirements of those specific project needs.
The Lead Estimator – Americas will report directly to the Regional Lead Estimating Manager and will have daily interactions with the other Regional groups and within the Estimating group.

Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years related experience
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience in Construction Cost Estimating as a Senior Estimator or Senior Cost Manager
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications:
- Understanding of the full Construction Life Cycle
- Capability to perform all forms and types of estimates from parametric to bottoms up and high level what-if scenarios
- Understanding of and appreciation for the Estimating process and how that process ties to the overall organizational goals
- Analytical, problem-solving skills beyond estimating practice
- Understand and be able to review and discuss plan drawings, P&ID’s and Electrical One-Line diagrams
- Understand the impacts of time and location on construction costs and accurately incorporate those costs into any estimate
- Ability to develop, maintain, and report out on project scope, schedule, and budget with cost as the main driver in those conversations
- Ability to present using the MS Office Suite, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint
- Cross-group collaborator and influencer across teams and organizations with proven success in delivering on key projects
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines simultaneously
- Multi-discipline experience and understand and be able to estimate all facets of a datacenter construction project
- Past work history in Pharmaceutical, High-Tech or Industrial projects; datacenter industry a plus
Construction Project Management IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 – $213,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Estimate the cost ofMicrosoftdatacenter projects to support the short- and long-term plans for the corporation.
- Partner collaboratively with cross-functional teams (design engineering, construction, cost controls functions, scheduling, finance, etc.) to understand requirements and ensure alignment to scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop and maintain estimating databases and templates specific to the role and location.
- Report out to senior managers on estimate data, project cost progress and assumptions to ensure a clear and concise message is sent and understood.
- Perform different types of estimates and projects, while keeping delivery dates as a top priority.
- Support, develop and improve estimating processes and procedures.
- Drive standardization and consistency throughout the group and the region.
- Manage and develop all Estimates and cost analysis for projects assigned.
- Develop market data and tracking for Regional trends.
- Support the development and updating of existing and new technology Plans of Record.
- Provide regular report-outs and reviews with partner teams, internal teams and senior leadership regarding the scope, schedule and budgets for the regions assigned.
- Support the ongoing updates of the Campus and Regional Cost targets.
- Participate in all Internal Estimate Reviews as well as specific External Estimate Reviews when required.
- Partner will all groups at Microsoft that touch or interact with our Datacenter build projects, ensuring alignment along all sectors in the development and review of estimate provided for datacenters or special programs.
