Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Jr. Software Engineer to join our team in Greenbelt, MD, to support our Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract for our NASA customer. This position will allow for 100% telework, with travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD and other NASA locations, as needed.
As prime contractor on the Peraton Space Exploration Networks Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks.
Join the SENSE team to support NASA programs that integrate with state-of-the-art RF satellite communications systems and technologies. In this position, you will become part of NASA’s return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.
In this position, you will be working with software control and data processing systems for optical ground systems and radio antennas. You will be responsible for supporting Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) operations, maintenance, test and integration of upgrades for the NASA Space Geodesy Network (NSGN) Data Operations Center (DOC).
Responsibilities will include:
- Monitor data reception, processing, quality control, and delivery to the ILRS data centers.
- Prepare data reports for SLR engineering tests.
- Develop code in accordance with applicable requirements documentation.
- Develop and execute test plans for software system verification and acceptance and develop required documentation.
- Support the integration of hardware and software systems and generation of related documentation.
- Support software maintenance services which may include problem troubleshooting, software update/installation, and/or modification of system software.
- Identify design alternatives and performing trade studies for system upgrades related to unsupported software and obsolete hardware.
- Provide support for legacy Linux systems and software, using Perl, C++, GO or Python as well as legacy Fortran utilities.
- Develop and execute software test plans and procedures, to include verification/validation of operational software.
- Perform duties in accordance with all systems engineering and configuration management policies and procedures.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- BS degree in Computer Science, Math, Engineering or other related technical field and 0 – 2+ years of related academic or professional experience in software development and engineering
- Experience with Perl and C++ programming languages, as well as Bash scripting
- Experience with Oracle databases for data storage and retrieval
- Ability to obtain a government Secret security clearance which requires a U.S. Citizen
DESIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Programming using GO or Python
- Experience with systems requirements development and allocation, and management of software specifications
- Experience with Git and other software version control or management tools
- Experience with software configuration management and software test plans and procedures
- Able to work both independently and collaboratively in groups
- Excellent oral and written communication skills

Salary Range
Salary Minimum: $40,000
Salary Mid: $80,000
Salary Maximum: $100,000
The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position, and is just one component of Peraton’s total compensation package for employees.
