This position primarily involves a hybrid work schedule – working remotely: Monday & Friday / on site: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
This role’s responsibility is to work to improve the reliability and performance of our systems. Will work closely with multiple IT and business teams to develop processes and technology to improve the overall reliability of our critical services and applications.
In this role you will work with development and infrastructure teams to incorporate reliability engineering principles as a standard practice. The ideal candidate will have experience with software engineering and a solid understanding of systems, application, infrastructure design.
- Closely reviews issues in our Production environments and analyzes what technical and process improvements are needed to resolve them.
- Responsible for establishing the collection of information needed to deliver the IT reliability report.
- Analyzes reliability data collected and creates metrics that measure the reliability of infrastructure and applications used by the NYL Direct line of business.
- Prepares diagrams, charts, and reports to define reliability problems and make recommendations for improvements. As well as to track progress towards increased reliability.
- Works across departments at all levels to understand the impact of service disruptions to the business.
- Oversees the Problem Management function and leverages it to drive improvements.
- Shapes the efficiency of the Major Incident process.
- Inserts technical and process change work into the IT portfolio.
- Engages with teams and departments to proactively identify opportunities to improve technology reliability.
- Oversees and influences the Proactive Monitoring and Alerting landscape within all technical environments.
- Provides in-house consulting activities to advise and inform personnel on a variety of reliability engineering topics across applications, components and processes throughout the system and product lifecycle.
- Advises, influences, and makes recommendations on architectural and engineering decisions from a reliability point of view.
- Originates and develops analysis methods to determine reliability of applications, components, and processes throughout the system and product lifecycle.
- Resolves difficult root cause failure analysis to prevent future failures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems preferred
- 5+ years’ related experience required
- Prior experience working with distributed applications
- Strong background with middleware and messaging technology
- Working knowledge of networking, software development lifecycles
- Ability to maintain strong communication with lines of business at management and technology consumer level and commuincate this back to IT technical and management teams
- Ability to provide input on technial and process work with a strong focus on prioritizing work that improves reliability
- Superior troubleshooting and critical thinking skills
- Ability to provide direction and guidance during times when critical business functions may not be working
- Ability to make decisions on the work that will be added to the IT portfollio
- Must be able to explain at a technical and business level why certain work, process or procedures changes need to be prioritized or changed

Salary range: $95,000-$145,000
