About the Secretary of State:
It is the mission of the office of Secretary of State to deliver to the people of Indiana government-as-a-service that focuses on unqualified integrity and accuracy in our elections, consistent and principled regulatory methods, ceaseless protection of Hoosier investors, and the most efficient use of taxpayer resources.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $52,500 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Role Overview:
Through the Indiana MoneyWise program, the Investor Education Coordinator (“IEC”) travels the state on a mission to improve financial literacy and educate Hoosiers about investment fraud. The IEC manages all aspects of the Securities Division’s outreach efforts and works in close cooperation with the Securities Commissioner and the Secretary’s Director of Communications. The IEC is responsible for the creation and maintenance of digital content, including the Indiana MoneyWise website and social media channels. This is a public-facing position, and the IEC is expected to attend a variety of events as a representative of the Secretary of State and the Securities Division, at these events, the IEC may be expected to speak on behalf of the office on matters of investment fraud education and financial literacy. These presentations are created by the IEC using the most up-to-date and accurate information available.
A Day in the Life:
The essential elements of the role are as follows:
- Outreach Events – Coordinate outreach events focused on fraud prevention and financial literacy. Keep records of events and attendance. Maintain relationships with key contacts associated with these outreach events and constantly search for additional opportunities. All expenses related to outreach events, such as travel and registration fees, must be approved by the Securities Commissioner and the Deputy Secretary of State.
- Project Management – Responsible for the management of ongoing projects and the creation and implementation of new projects. Examples include the Indiana MoneyWise e-magazine and badge day programs with the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana.
- Indiana MoneyWise Digital Content – Manage the Indiana MoneyWise website and social media accounts by regularly adding and editing content. Responsible for content creation and publishing of the Indiana MoneyWise e-magazine.
- Reporting – Provide bi-weekly updates to the Securities Commissioner on all outreach opportunities, partnerships, and project management.
- Materials – Maintain the supply of educational materials. Responsible for the ordering of new materials as needed. Review current materials to ensure information is up-to-date and accurate. Collaborates with the Secretary’s Director of Communications on the creation of new materials.
- North American Securities Administrator Association (NASAA) – Participation in a NASAA project group focused on educational outreach. Maintain strong relationships with IECs in other jurisdictions. Attend training conferences as approved by the Securities Commissioner.

What You’ll Need for Success:
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- Baccalaureate Degree or 4-year equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience in educational outreach, communications, journalism, or related field.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills (comfort with public speaking is a must).
- Comfort using a wide variety of digital platforms and technology (knowledge of Prezi is a plus).
- Ability to manage large projects.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in detail.
- Ability to travel alone.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
