Overview

Education – Interior Project Planning Lead

This position is responsible for leading all District design phases for interior projects, establishes the vision on every project, leads the team, and has extensive interaction with various stakeholders. Qualified candidates must have space planning experience with a minimum of twelve (12) years of full-time paid professional experience in interior design and completion of interior projects; and at least five (5) years supervisory experience leading a team involved in design development, planning, procurement and logistics for furniture/equipment projects.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and leading planning and coordination meetings with SOTU and other Facilities staff.
  • Translates, plans, and executes the instructional vision of District executive staff, Administrators and teachers and other end users.
  • Develops, maintains, and analyzes project database, space, and end user requirements to determine the most efficient use of space according to design.
  • Manages the work of interior designers and other SOTU staff by reviewing design and technical drawings to ensure compliance with design solutions as well as schedule and budget qualifications; provides balance between aesthetic features and existing structures, site and environment.
  • Reviews and finalizes space plans for projects with interior designers and lower-level staff; provide feedback on the work product.
  • Coordinate work schedules and project assignments for multiple sites of interior designers and other staff
  • Recommends policies, procedures, guidelines, and product standards.
  • Conducts manufacturer, vendor, and product reviews to establish the criteria for their participation in the F&E program.
  • Provides expert advice on the selection and design of essential fixtures and finishes to use for projects; of equipment and furnishings to ensure maximum durability for longevity, instructional support, aesthetic value, life expectancy, functional space arrangements, flow plan, etc.
  • Presents briefings and issues updates regarding interior projects to Executive Facilities staff as required.
  • Prepares detailed reports on SOTU planning, procurement and logistics for F&E project planning.
  • Reviews and produces final cost estimates; manages overall design budget of interior projects and variances to the budget.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Experience:

  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of full-time paid professional experience in interior design and completion of interior projects.
  • Must have at least five (5) years supervisory experience in leading a team involved in design development; planning, procurement and logistics for furniture/equipment projects.
  • Must have space planning experience.

Required Knowledge/Skills:

  • Candidates shall excel at the ability to execute a project from concept design through execution documentation.
  • Concept, schematic, design development and materials specifications.
  • Extensive knowledge of design principles and aesthetics.
  • Extensive knowledge of space planning and methodology.
  • Extensive knowledge of building systems, codes and ADA requirements as they relate to interior design.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage deliverables, schedules, logistics.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; extensive presentation and graphic communication.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead staff through direct authority and subject matter expertise.
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation and proven ability to manage projects within budgetary constraints.
  • Salary Range: $110,000 to $125,000

Required Education:

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture or Architecture
  • Master’s degree in business or public administration is preferred
