Facilities & Head Custodian

West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics is hiring a full time Facilities and Head Coach. $15-20 per hour, pay to be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Starting Date: ASAP

Job Summary: Oversee physical maintenance, cleanliness, and operational systems of the facilities and grounds.

Supervise and assign tasks to the part-time custodial staff. Assist with planning and execution of building construction or renovation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

  • Problem solve and troubleshoot many different maintenance issues in an educational setting.
  • Clean, vacuum, mop, remove trash, and conduct all required building sanitation protocols.
  • Keep the building and grounds clean, safe, functional and secure in accordance with academy policies and standards.
  • Maintain an inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies and materials.
  • Work with the Admin Services Coordinator for ordering and purchasing.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, grasp with hands, squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward and bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person; lift up to 80 pounds, for items such as cleaning supplies, packing and unloading trucks, salt, furniture, scrubbing machines, etc.
  • Will need to use ladders and lifts to conduct maintenance work at times.

  • Establishes positive relationships with students, parents, and school personnel.
  • Ability to communicate well at various levels with students, parents, contracted vendors, school personnel, and administration.
  • Evidence of positive attitude, high level of flexibility, and a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
  • Evidence of high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in personal and professional matters.
  • Maintain regular attendance, report to work neat and clean, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

Qualifications: Hold high school diploma or equivalent with an Associate degree or higher preferred. Prior maintenance and/or custodial experience with a working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, and electrical troubleshooting desired. Must be able to pass a criminal justice fingerprint/background check.
