Human Resources Generalist/Associate

The Quincy Institute seeks a Human Resources Generalist who will run the daily functions of human resources (HR) programming at the Quincy Institute, including interviewing and onboarding staff; administering pay, benefits, and leave; maintaining a healthy workplace culture; and explaining and enforcing company policies and practices for an organization of about 40 staff, spread across the country, but with the majority based in Washington, DC.

The mission-driven organization is in its fourth year, with overall high morale and informal but professional atmosphere.

This position is based in Washington, DC, and will report to the Director of Operations. Remote candidates will not be considered. The salary range for this role is $50k to 65k.

The HR Generalist/Associate will perform routine tasks required to administer and execute all human resource programs, including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; disciplinary matters; and disputes and investigations. Specific responsibilities are below.

Responsibilities:

    • Review, track, and document compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments. This may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
    • Recruit, interview, and facilitate the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings and facilitate promotion of job openings widely and appropriately to help achieve a diverse pool of highly qualified applicants.
    • Implement new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
    • Assist with equipment management and ensure staff receive equipment essential to their role.
    • Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
    • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
    • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, as well as recommended best practices; review policies and practices to keep them up to date and maintain compliance.
    • Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, and new technologies in human resources, and talent management.
    • Manage the internship program, be a guide to the interns on their overall experience at the organization.
    • Maintain human resources records, including applications, résumés, and applicant logs.
    • Verify candidates’ background by contacting references and verify documentation for employment.
    • Explain and assist staff with the benefit programs.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    • Proficiency with Gusto, Lever, Google Suite, or similar software.
    • Sense of humor and interest in our work is a plus!

Required Training and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.
    • At least two-years of human resource experience is preferred.
    • SHRM-CP a plus.
