Background on the Position

The role will reside within the Firm Risk Management’s Risk Analytics area. Risk Analytics develops market risk analytics, credit risk analytics, operational risk analytics and scenario analytics models providing quantitative analysis on the Firm’s risk exposures. By developing mathematical and statistical models, Risk Analytics calculates the risks associated with specified sets of financial positions and day-to-day operations.

Morgan Stanley is seeking a Vice President in its Market Risk Analytics department. The Market Risk Analytics group develops, maintains, and monitors the performance of market risk (VaR, Stressed VaR, IRC and CRM) and stress testing models for Morgan Stanley’s portfolio of assets, as required by the regulatory framework and the Firm’s risk management needs.

The new hire will join Market Risk Analytics team to undertake research, modelling, development, and analysis of various market risk models to ensure appropriate modelling and capture of risk, regulatory capital calculation, ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements (including FRTB). The New Hire will work closely with business partners within the Firm including Market Risk Department, Front Office Strats, Model Risk Management, Risk Capital, and Risk IT.

Primary Responsibilitie

– Develop and enhance market risk models

– Develop methodologies and model specifications required for Fundamental Review of the Trading Book implementation within the Firm (including all components of FRTB IMA)

– Effectively represent/communicate quantitative models to a wide audience of stakeholders and senior managers

– Effectively collaborate with partnering areas (Market risk managers, Front Office and IT) to design, plan and execute on projects

– Respond to model risk management, audit, and regulatory requests on a timely and accurate basi

Qualifications:

Experience

– PhD/Masters in a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Engineering or Mathematics, or equivalent

– 5 years or more experience working with risk and/or pricing models. Alternatively, 3 years or more experience at the Associate or above level

– Attention to detail and the ability to work thoughtfully and independently and manage multiple project

– Experience in derivatives/traded asset pricing and financial data analysis strongly preferred

– Background in and knowledge of statistical analytical techniques strongly preferred

– Proficiency in Python and database query languages strongly preferred

– Strong communication and project management skills strongly preferred

– Commodities experience srongly preferred

– Experience with market risk regulatory rules a plu

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $110,000 USD and $190,000 USD per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
