The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and proAND PASSED EXAM NUMBER 3558.*vides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing child care assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.
The Hotline Supervisor at the Office of Placement Administration will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations for emergency/planned/specialized units responsible for identifying/securing the most appropriate out of home settings for children. The OPA Supervisor II also provides ongoing guidance and support to ensure that all assignments for area of responsibility are conducted thoroughly, expeditiously and adheres to agency mission.
The duties and responsibilities of the Hotline Supervisor will include:
• Utilize management reports to improve unit function
• Provide expertise and direction on difficult cases requiring a higher level of intervention to implement placement.
• Trouble shoot with inter/intra agency managerial staff
• Hold weekly supervision conferences with supervisor I
• Approve time and leave requests ensuring proper office coverage
• Perform yearly written evaluations with interim conferences throughout the year
• Attend conferences, meetings, family court hearing to represent OPA; as well as provide written reports on the placement efforts for court proceedings.
• Attend supervisory meetings, as required
• Negotiate placement of youth with contract agencies, presenting children in the best possible light
• Maintain contact with ACS staff and staff from the various contract agencies on placement related matters.
• Utilize all data bases, including Placement Tracking System (PTS), WMS, CCRS, CAS, LTS, Connections Placement Module, Docushare, and e-mail.
Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in one or a combination of the following fields: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education (including early childhood), nursing or cultural anthropology, at least 12 of which must have been in one of these disciplines; 30 semester credits toward a Masters of Social Work degree or toward a graduate degree in a related field; plus eighteen months of child protective casework experience.
