Responsibilities

The Mayo Clinic Libraries seek an energetic and experienced librarian to join their fully integrated system of sixteen libraries. We are looking for a collaborative librarian with supervisory experience to lead a team of six librarians who primarily deliver research services, outreach, and instruction from remote working environments. As a remote supervisor, the Head of Library Research Services and Outreach will collaborate with Mayo Clinic supervisors and staff who are working both hybrid and fully onsite schedules to deliver library services and resources in Mayo Clinic’s academic, hospital, and patients’ libraries. This full-time, remote supervisory position is administered by Mayo Clinic Libraries in Rochester, Minnesota, and reports to the Executive Director of the Mayo Clinic Libraries and Historical Units. Qualified applicants living in the United States are encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Allocation of time and responsibilities will vary based upon the expertise of the individual hired and focus of responsibilities during each year. For this new remote supervisory position, the time allocation is anticipated to be:

20% – Supervisory Management: Supervises a team of six librarians. Collaboratively leads remote librarians who are delivering library research services to Mayo Clinic employees and learners (e.g., students, residents, fellows). Responsible for recruiting, orienting, evaluating, and advocating for direct reports. Collaborates with other library supervisors and librarians working onsite and hybrid schedules across all Mayo Clinic sites to set and maintain standards for the continuity of library service delivery. Prepares proposals, budget requests, and reports and has oversight for work unit budget. Meets regularly with library senior leadership to facilitate and advance the initiatives of the Library Research Services and Outreach unit.

15% – Library Assessment: Determines the impact of library services and resources via ongoing assessment. Collaborating with library colleagues, actively participates in data collection and submission of information requested by the annual AAHSL and ACRL survey instruments. Provides leadership and guidance when library evaluations are being planned and implemented. Participates in post-assessment analysis and reporting.

40% – Library Research Services: Leads the team of remote librarians who are delivering library research services from their remote work locations. Responsible for actively participating in the delivery of remote library research services (e.g., literature searches, systematic reviews, library instruction, reference, and referral assistance). Note: Document delivery and interlibrary loan services are managed through Access Services not the Library Research Services and Outreach unit. Writing, editing, and statistical review services are provided by Mayo Clinic’s Scientific Publications division, which is not a library unit.

20% – Outreach and Instruction: Serves as a primary proponent for sharing news about the library’s resources, services, and spaces. Proposes opportunities and helps implement library outreach plans. Provides support (e.g., planning, active involvement, time and budget allocations) to library staff who are conducting outreach activities. Develops communiques, gives tours and presentations, and participates in initiatives to effectively communicate library news.

5% – Special Projects: Special projects may include those proposed by the Head of Library Research Services and Outreach, or they may include the accomplishment of strategic goals, multi-department initiatives, collection development, or emerging technologies.
