The Global Workplace Services (GWS) Global Sustainability Platform Lead will be responsible for developing and coordinating strategy, partnering across internal stakeholders to advise on execution, and is responsible for reporting on progress against stated sustainability commitments laddering to Microsoft’s carbon negative, water positive and zero waste goals. This position requires stakeholder leadership, business acumen, excellent communication skills, the ability to leverage internal and industry technical data to propose and receive approval for strategy, and personal commitment to meaningful climate action.

This role will directly contribute to Microsoft’s climate commitments and will involve collaboration with stakeholders across the sector.

Responsibilities:
The GWS Global Sustainability Platform Lead will develop and executing sustainability goals across Microsoft’s global real estate portfolio and will have the following responsibilities:

  • Convert Microsoft’s high level sustainability strategy and vision into action to achieve meaningful results to elevate GWS’s contribution to our corporate sustainability goals.
  • Create and implement communication change management strategies to promote broad awareness of initiatives to support sustainability inquiry, change, and assessment.
  • Build effective partnerships on sustainability efforts across the company including Corporate, External and Legal Affairs, HR, Sourcing and Cloud teams.
  • Lead development of quantitative models, metrics, and analysis of design and operational impacts across our key categories of ecosystems, carbon, water, and waste
  • Analyze industry trends, policy, and regulations to guide GWS strategy and incorporate opportunities for scale and efficiency.
  • Lead efforts to amplify Microsoft’ GWS best practices within Microsoft and with key NGOs and industry groups.
  • Develop and manage comprehensive sustainability budget in partnership with finance and the GWS organization to ensure sustainability funding is appropriately allocated and ensures progress against targets.
  • Seek opportunities to leverage Microsoft technology to deliver on sustainability initiatives.
  • Increase the visibility to the sustainability program to employees, internal stakeholders and GWS shareholders to effectively tell the Microsoft GWS sustainability journey.
  • Provide day-to-day project coordination and effectively communicate strategy and priorities to senior leadership.
  • Champion vision and strategy within global GWS community, build buy-in and ensure deep engagement across all functional areas.
  • Stay current and well briefed on the latest and emerging Sustainable Building Design Standards and work with other stakeholders to ensure this insight is effectively incorporated into Microsoft standards.
  • Identify and engage key external built environment partners on carbon, water, ecosystems, and waste in collaboration with other BGs.
  • Develop and execute appropriate business rhythms and forums to ensure success within & across GWS, and across the company.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or degree equivalent in Business Administration (BBA), Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Construction/Project Management, Technology, Design, Sustainability, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Justice or related field AND 8+ years multinational corporate environment experience in the area of sustainability and program management
    • OR Master’s Degree or degree equivalent in Business Administration (MBA), Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Construction/Project Management, Technology, Design, or related field AND 6+ years multinational corporate environment experience in the area of sustainability and program management
    • OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or degree equivalent in Business Administration (BBA), Finance, Engineering, Architecture, Construction/Project Management, Technology, Design, or related field AND 9+ years multinational corporate environment experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
    • 7+ years of relevant work experience with demonstrated success leading large sustainability & strategic initiatives.
    • Specific experience in the areas of sustainability policies, conservation, energy sourcing and management, carbon accounting and reporting, climate science, waste and water management is preferred.
    • Experience in Real Estate operations preferred.
    • Experience in Real Estate design and construction preferred.
    • Proven ability to develop and execute new programs and understanding how to institutionalize new sustainability efforts.
    • Relevant experience in corporate program management will be given strong consideration.

Facilities and Workplace Services IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,200 – $194,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $142,200 – $213,200 per year.
