THE POSITION

Monterey Peninsula College seeks a full-time tenure-track Instructor of Photography who can lead, maintain, and continue to develop the College’s long-standing Photography program, as well as expand the program in the direction of videography, digital photography, and alternative processes. Duties will include teaching basic core Photography courses and advanced courses as appropriate; managing the Photography darkroom and related facilities; managing a budget; scheduling all Photography courses; developing curricula.

The ideal candidate for the Full-Time Faculty Photography Instructor position will share the College’s commitment to educating a diverse student population.

1. Teach all courses in Photography and Videography in accordance with program
and scheduling needs;

2. Assist in the assessment, development, and revision of curriculum, including student and program learning outcomes, assessment of learning and program review;

3. Collaborate with other instructors to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student success;

4. Participate in the development and/or selection of course materials, equipment and technology, and methods of instruction (distance education/online teaching) that will enhance course offerings of the department;

5. Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies, technologies, and curricula while developing new instructional materials and techniques to meet the changing needs of students;

6. Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours;

7. Serve as a member of division, department, and college committees;

8. Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs in a timely manner;

9. Teach a variety of courses during the day, evening, or online at the Monterey campus, Marina Education Center, and/or other designated locations.

10. Research, acquire, and operate equipment necessary for photography instruction in a digital and darkroom environment.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMaster’s in photography, fine arts, or art

OR

Bachelor’s in any of the above

AND

Master’s in art history or humanities

Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse

academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, gender identity, religious, sexual

orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of students attending a community college.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. Knowledge of and commitment to community college teaching, including experience meeting the needs of learners with diverse backgrounds and a wide range of skills and goals, to enhance student success.

2. Experience working collaboratively with students, artists, or colleagues.

3. Knowledge of or experience with promoting student success and retention

4. Effective oral and written communication skills

5. An exhibition record of photographic and/or video work (may include digital images, projection, photo-based installation, alternative photo processes, and mixed media that integrates photography)

6. Experience teaching photography at the community college level

7. Experience teaching video at the community college level

8. Experience working in or supervising a photographic darkroom facility – including the specification, purchase, repair, and maintenance of related equipment, mixing of photographic chemicals, management of storage and disposal, operation of safety equipment, and the safe and appropriate cleaning of facilities

9. Experience with basic digital record-keeping and proficiency with Google productivity software (or similar).

10. Course scheduling experience

11. Curriculum development experience in photography and/or videography

12. Experience overseeing, assisting, and advising students in the production and exhibition of their photographic and/or video work.

SALARY
Initial salary placement is based on the current Full-Time Faculty Salary Schedule
A. The starting salary range is $66,927.00 – $90,756.00 annually, and is based on
verification of education and experience for column and step placement. In addition
to the base salary, the successful candidate may also earn an annual Doctoral
stipend of $3,290 or an annual multiple Masters’ stipend of $2,332, if applicable.

Anticipated Compensation:$44.00-$58.22 per hour for instructional assignments
$37.65-$49.48 per hour for non-instructional assignments (such as library or counseling)
