NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range

$101,400 – $201,400

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like

We are currently seeking a Science and Engineering Project Manager to join their team in support of Missile and Strike Systems Research and Development Activities!

The selected candidate will support and lead rapidly recurring integrated missile systems design and flight test operations for the organization. They will also support fielding and flight test operations with a focus on low-cost high tempo multidisciplinary flight systems integration and test.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Conduct primary sponsor interface regarding program budget, schedule, risk and high-level technical activities
  • Collaborate with other technical and non-technical project managers to respond to overarching interrelated sponsor request and requirements
  • Serve as the technical program manager of a fast-paced multidisciplinary team of highly competent technical staff
  • Lead a team of project controllers, including interns
  • Partner with peers across Integrated Military Systems to deliver on corporate and sponsor strategic initiatives
  • Coordinate development of flight test campaign and non-recurring engineering cost estimates of rocket flight test activities.
  • Oversee status reporting of budget and schedule performance for management team and sponsors

Qualifications We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant STEM field, plus 5 years technical experience
  • 2 years Project Management experience
  • Current PMP certification or equivalent certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire

  • Advanced degree in relevant STEM field (MS or PhD)
  • Experience with the following:
  • Experience with large cost estimates (greater than $10M)
  • Primavera 6 experience
  • Possess a strong dedication to a positive teaming dynamic and ability to mentor junior staff members and/or interns
  • Flight test integration and fielding experience
  • Exposure to flight system design and analysis processes
  • Ability to manage complex projects/portfolios
  • Experience leading aspects of flight-grade hardware and avionics component design, procurement, integration, test, and post-flight data analysis and distribution
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal)
  • Familiarity with flight test range coordination and flight safety analysis processes
  • Experience working with government agencies and working with classified information handling and data distribution
  • Familiarity with Propulsion Systems and Ordnance Device Handling, Inventory, Assembly, Integration, and Flight Test
  • Identifying and implementing engineered and administrative controls for hazardous operations and implementation of mission assurance principles for high consequence technical activities

About Our Team

The Mechanical Flight Systems Department supports flight test programs across center 05400 and the laboratories at large in both DoD and DOE mission spaces. We provide expertise in vehicle mechanical and ordinance system design, implementation, and test for a wide range of rocket-based flight systems. Our staff members are integral flight test project team members active in all aspects of vehicle design, mission planning, flight test execution, and post-test analysis. We maintain relationships with active national test ranges such as KTF, PMRF, WFF, WSMR, RTS, VAFB, KSC, as well as numerous government and industry partners related to ordnance and propulsion production and storage. We also cooperate with numerous commercial launch providers in support of a national defense related mission set. Sponsors include US Navy, Army, and Air Force, the MDA, DTRA, DARPA, NASA, as well as private industry.
