Overview

The Floor Manager-Labor Relations is responsible for working with Customers, Labor and Show and Exhibitor Appointed Contractors to ensure that the provisions of the Labor Reform Act of 2010 are honored by all parties and event work continues without interruption while concerns and disputes are resolved.

This role will pay a salary of $75,000 to $100,000.

McCormick Place located in downtown Chicago is the largest and most flexible convention center in North America., With over 2.6 million square feet of exhibition space, the campus proudly hosts some of the world’s largest and most prestigious conventions, meetings, and trade shows, welcoming approximately 3 million visitors to Chicago every year.

Responsibilities
• Works with designated MPEA personnel to ensure that historical and negotiated jurisdictions are accurately observed by all parties working on the show floor.
• Oversees all components of the Labor Reform Act of 2010 that impact the exhibit show floor including the labor jurisdictions (under the oversight of assigned MPEA representatives), ASUV program, outside food for self consumption, start times, premium time, etc.
• Maintains a log of all rulings for future reference and consistent application.
• Acts as an educational resource for customers, contractors, labor and other departments and developing educational sessions to assist new employees, contractors and customers navigate the jurisdictions, rules, and programs in a manner that minimizes cost and inefficiencies.
• Acts as first line of verification ensuring that only full-time employees of exhibitors or the appropriate trade are assigned for work covered by exhibitor rights in exhibit halls.
• Represents the facility during site visits, customer visits, presentations and proposals on issues related to event labor.
• Ensures that contractors employ the proper composite crew ratios as required.
• Works with GM for preparation and presentation on labor related topics such as issue identification, event audits, market basket price comparisons, etc. for the MPEA Labor Council.
• Meets regularly with MPEA Director of Labor Relations and Campus Operations to ensure consistency in operations and alignment with MPEA direction.
• Assists loss prevention manager with the identification of contractor or event damage during events to include participating in pre or post event inspections and immediately reporting event related damage.
• Helps represent McCormick Place management with exhibitor and contractor professional organizations such ESCA, EACA and IAEE.
• Assist Facility Security department with application of Building Entrance and Exit Procedures (B.E.E.P.) and loss prevention programs.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
• Three to five years experience in a management role
• Five to ten years experience in a supervisory or leadership role with a Show or Exhibitor Appointed Contractor.
• High School diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree in business related field preferred.
• Ability to perform effectively under significant pressure typically associated with meeting the demands and timetables of the entertainment and hospitality industries.
• Ability to work event nights, weekends and holidays as required.
• Strong written and oral presentation skills.
• Excellent conflict resolution skills, including demonstrated de-escalation skills.
• Working experience with Microsoft Office products.
