Job Summary/Basic Function:
To analyze, research, forecast, and reconcile complex financial documents; ensure compliance with laws, rules, and policies; perform related work.

This position is hybrid-eligible and must be able to report to the Boise State Main Campus on a weekly basis.
Department Overview:
The Quantum DNA (qDNA) research area is a collaboration that spans multiple departments and colleges at Boise State and in combination forms the Quantum DNA Research Group. The qDNA research area pioneers using deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)-the building block of life on our planet-as a programmable, self-assembling architecture to organize dye molecules for quantum information systems (QIS).
Level Scope:
Applies skills and job knowledge in area of specialization; may adapt procedures, operations, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to meet needs of area of specialization; may work on non-routine tasks; resolves issues/makes working decisions within area of specialization or responsibility with minimal supervision.
Essential Functions:
60% of the Time the Financial Technician must:

  • Responsible for maintaining the Quantum DNA (qDNA) research group’s email account predominately associated with the group’s purchases, coding these purchases with the correct accounting information to ensure financial accuracy, and tracking and researching purchases to ensure purchases are properly ordered, received, and invoiced.
  • Responsible for managing qDNA’s capital equipment inventory spreadsheet.
  • To accomplish the preceding, the Financial Technician will be responsible for reaching out to group members to obtain the required information and understanding of purchases.
  • Assist the qDNA’s Senior Financial Accountant in ensuring group personnel grant charges are accurate.
  • Assist the qDNA’s Senior Financial Accountant in achieving grant budget reconciliations.

35% of the Time the Financial Technician may:

  • Responsible for specific financial duties such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, budget, journals, etc. May act as the sole technician in an agency, region, or district that encompasses a variety of financial activities that typically include budget, payroll and benefits, accounts payable/receivable, accounts reconciliation, travel, purchasing, and similar support functions. Use bookkeeping, research, and analytical skills, and develop ad hoc reports and other financial data for use by management.
  • Acquire a broad knowledge of the organization’s programs and financial requirements; identify and correct errors and discrepancies; determine cost allocations; maintain logs, ledgers, and journals. May compile and prepare budget data and monitor account balances, as well as design bookkeeping-type record systems.
  • Review, complete, and process financial documents and ensure their compliance.

5% of the Time the Financial Technician will:

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Basic

  • Experience using Microsoft Excel and Word software.
  • Some knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience in reviewing accounts payable and accounts receivable for processing and generating related reports.

Preferred

  • Ability to multitask.
  • Ability to organize and manipulate large Excel datasets.
  • Familiarity with Google Drive functions.
  • Strong work ethic capable of working remotely and with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication skills via Zoom, chat, email, etc.
  • Ability to understand the fundamentals associated with purchasing processes and inventory managem ent.

Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of financial record-keeping methods.

Experience: researching and compiling financial information and preparing summaries and reports; using personal computers to enter, retrieve, and edit financial data.

$15.42 to $19.77 per hour depending on experience.
