Temporary Position 12-15 Months
Incumbent will conduct outreach in the Farmworker community, working with community members to identify the most urgent needs in the areas of health, education and housing. Incumbent is responsible for meeting one-on-one with members of the community to learn of the needs of the community and will invite members to participate in workshops/classes and other activities that will empower them to speak out on behalf of the community and effect positive changes.
Responsibilities
- Welcome community members to the Center and/or answer telephones, and register people for FWC classes or services, and also navigate people to appropriate community resources.
- Conduct outreach within the community; this includes visiting with community members in their homes, in the CCS Farmworker Community Center or at other locations in order to develop and encourage active participation in the Prepares program and other FWC programs.
- Recruit and support volunteers by connecting them with service opportunities in order to develop active participation in the FWC programs and/or Prepares Program.
- Collaborate routinely with Prepares Area Coordinator at activities in the Catholic churches and other locations.
- Create promotional materials for events using Microsoft computer programs.
- Maintain database of event participants, and track participant services.
- Facilitate workshops and meetings.
- Mentor and assist with training new staff, interns and volunteers.
- Work as a team member to set up classrooms for workshops; greet participants and provide hospitality.
- Attend trainings and assist workshop presenters with classroom needs.
- Represent Catholic Community Services at community events; including but not limited to meeting with community and partnering agencies, multi-cultural festivals, etc.
- Welcome community members who visit the CCS Farmworker Community Center.
- Collaborate with community organizations on various projects.
- Schedule events, and maintain the Center’s event calendar to ensure that events are not double-booked.
- Attend training and staff meetings as scheduled.
- Provide interpretation and translation in Spanish/Mixteco/Triqui/English.
- Assist with maintaining the Center in a clean and welcoming condition.
- Responsible to ensure the Center is secured at the conclusion of events.
- Other duties as needed.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Bilingual Spanish/English with experience interpreting Spanish/English.
- Experience speaking in public.
- Experience facilitating workshops.
- Experience working with the Farmworker community.
- Commitment to serve the community through the CCS Farmworker Community Center.
- Ability to treat all persons with respect, dignity and compassion.
- Ability to work as a team member and to work with people of similar and different cultural backgrounds.
- Understanding of the Indigenous Farmworker culture.
- Ability to be flexible with changes in schedule.
- Valid WA State Divers License and valid automobile insurance.
- Successfully passing criminal history background checks is required prior to employment.
